Denied 2nd opinion
I was seen by mayo ent by a doctors assistant for ear clicking and inner cheek and gum swelling. I requested to see an actual dr from ent but was denied by dr assistant saying no more could be done. I had mri done and asked if ant of clavicle nodes were swollen she told me no but had ultrasound back here in Iowa and right supraclavicle node is enlarged. The ents in Iowa won’t see me because I have went to Mayo. How do I get into a different ent at Mayo?

Hi,
I think that's terrible the way they are treating you! You should be able to see any doctor you want! I would suggest that you find a new doctor; possibly call your insurance about it to see who they recommend that's covered. Don't mention to the new doctor who you have already been seen by unless he asks you. After all, it's your body and your money! Say a prayer and ask God to help you find the right doctor.
I'll say a prayer for you too.

@sacole, I recommend a couple of things.
1. Share the results of your local ultrasound with the ENT team at Mayo Clinic via the patient portal.
2. Contact the ENT department at the Mayo Clinic location where you were seen to request a change in doctor. See the department contact information here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/ent-head-neck-surgery/sections/overview/ovc-20424084
@sacole
The Director of MCC has given you some excellent recommendations.
You did not mention which Mayo you are seeing and you don't need to. There is another thing you can consider or should I say if available and that is the patient advocacy program. They will take your complaint and intervene for you by contacting the director of the department you are having problems with. I have done this several times. Sometimes patient advocacy will come back with "this is policy." But try it at least you will have someone intervening for you. You will be given what the head of that department has responded to patient advocacy.
I know from my own experience Mayo is reluctant to change your doctors or P.A. But it is done sometimes per request, My wife, and I have personal experience with this.
Just know the motto of Mayo is "Patient First." And for almost all my doctors I have found this. But sometimes it just takes a little more intervening and at least a little more trying if if feel your are being seen below that motto.
I did that and was still denied! Thx
I originally went for the clicking and oral swelling back in retro trigone region and what I call a shallow ulcer on bottom right of tongue. I was set up with a pediatric dermatologist and like I said a physicians assistant in ent. I went to the Mayo because I wanted to get answers and I thought they were the best but this is what I got stuck with and still no answers. Very disappointed in mayo Rochester. Thx for your response
I tried that even sent a letter to president of Mayo and he just sends complaint to patient advocate and get nowhere. It was the mayo Rochester. Thx for response
Thank you
@sacole I'm sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience with ENT in Rochester. In the 13 years I have been seeing them, I have found them to be so cooperative and always felt like my needs came first. What you have experienced is similar to what we found with my husband's first visit to Urology there. We went on to speak with the patient advocate right from that appointment. We were finally able to see the correct surgical team because it was an error in the scheduling that placed us with the wrong team. I have to say that last two years of care in Urology seems to be improved. I would continue to work with the patient advocate to see if anything can be worked out. Best of luck.
