Help with bladder/abdominal pain?

Posted by emilyjohnson25 @emilyjohnson25, Mar 8 11:08pm

I (16F) have been dealing with bladder and abdominal pain for over a year, but I've always assumed it was frequent UTIs. No treatment with multiple antibiotics for months. My urine comes back clear, doctor says maybe IC? Not been officially diagnosed since no urology places can see me until April. I got an IUD about a month ago and since then it seems like my bladder burning/frequency and general cramping pain has gotten so much worse. Baths & heating pads do not help anymore. I'm staying hydrated but I feel that now I need to find treatments. Any help???

Do you have any incontinence along with or separate from pain in the bladder?

It does feel like sometimes I don't have any control over it. Like if I pop my back or sneeze too hard I just pee with no warning.

I sympathize. A male who has had long time IC. I thought that was bad until my bladder quit working. Much worse! Now, I wonder whether left low back pain is kidney related. When should I worry? T.

@emilyjohnson25 welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. What is “(16F)”? Just making sure I’m on the right track. I’m sorry about your bladder/abdominal pain. I’m not sure that an inter uterine device (IUD) would be associated with your your bladder/abdominal pain but it would certainly be worth ruling out as a cause. My daughter had an IUD that morphed out of position and caused some sort of uterus problem. It was discovered and corrected in an exploratory surgery. It is a good idea to seek treatment. Perhaps you can start with the provider who placed the IUD?

@crowescott not completely sure what IC is. Is that a bladder cystitis? What have you decided to do about your bladder not working? That doesn’t sound good! Pain often happens to alert us that something is wrong and needs to be corrected. A consult with urology &/or nephrology might be a good idea.

(16F) as in I am a 16 year old female. I mentioned the IUD because I've been cramping a lot with it and it may be contributing to my overall pain
