Sadness while on meds

Posted by yanks950 @yanks950, 3 days ago

About 2 months ago I went through a 3 month bout with horrible depression and anxiety. My psych doc increased my duloxetine to 120mg (60mg 2x/day) and started me on buspar 30mg (15mg 2x/day). I have been feeling much better but for the last day and a half I have been feeling like a want to cry for no reason.

I don’t know if this is a side effect from the meds or because I haven’t been sleeping well or if I’m going backwards. It’s really worrying me and not sure what to do to stop myself from thinking to much about it and causing even more mental issues for myself.

How long have you been on the new medication and combination of meds? Any adjustments can take 2-4+ weeks to see how you do on them. It could be you are adjusting to the new medication. If you still feel this way after 2 weeks, you may need to make changes. I spent 1.5 years trying different medications and combinations. Several times I had really bad reactions within a day or two taking the new medication or after one week the symptoms were noticeable. If they are not good reactions, the medication may not be a good option for you.

I was on duloxetine 90mg for years and the combo of the increased duloxetine and added in buspar is about 6 weeks. I’m just really scared of going backwards after having been fine for the past 2 months.

@yanks950 I echo what @dlydailyhope has said. It takes time to adjust to new medications and see the effect they might have on you. Do you think the time of day you take everything has a play in this? Do you take things together?

Might I suggest speaking to your trusted pharmacist and get their input on when to take, how to take everything you are on, both over-the-counter and Rx, so you have the optimum routine for your unique situation. Our pharmacists are a wonderful resource. Take them some cookies or treat!

Try Trintellix. Latest best anti depressant on the market.
Most people have no side effects. A small percentage experience some nausea, as I do. I sometimes have to take an anti nausea med. but it’s worth it cause there is virtually no other negatives. Helps with anxiety as well.

I agree. It’s just very depressing because I get better for two months after going through hell for 3 months and now all of a sudden it’s like I’m going backwards. I’ve been in the new meds for at least 6 weeks. My body should def be used to them by now. Just makes me always want to cry.

I'm so sorry that you are having these issues with your new medications. Do a search on the Mayo Clinic website for the side effects of your medications. That may answer some of your questions. Ginger's suggestion to talk to your pharmacist is a good idea.

I would also suggest that you pray about this. Just talk to God like he's your best friend; and he is! Tell him your problems and ask for his help. Then just have faith and wait for the answer. It will come.

I wish you the best. I will say a prayer for you.

I think that’s always the case with depression. It’s so awful there’s always that fear of going back there again. Hope all stays good for you

I too was on Duloxetine for many years, 90 mg... for depression and fibromyalgia...
Now I've cut it back to 30 mg daily and depression has improved, but the fibromyalgia pain is back with me again.. Especially when I wake up in the mornings.
My memory has developed holes in it, just missing entire episodes that folks tell me about and I have absolutely no memory of.. That is the reason for me reducing the Duloxetine. My doctors tell me that I do not have dementia or alzheimers.. Meds can mess with our minds!
Everything improves after I'm up for a while and get my mind distracted with myriad things to keep me busy..

How long did you give each med? I’m on day 10 of Remeron and feel awful. So many side effects.
