Constipation, 911 and bm talk
I just completed 35 radiation Treatments for thyroid & trachea cancer. This included 6 chemotherapy.
I have been on oxycodone and tylenol for throat pain and radiation skin pain.
The dilemma....
Oxycodone 5mg max 20 per day. Plus tylenol.
Not active enough.
2 or 3 kate farms per day
Supposed to take senokot daily, but forgot.
What happened....
Severe constipation blockage. Called 911. Hospital helped.
Now my gi and bm are all screwed up. I am taking senokot. I have fleet enema for emergency.
To help others....
Oxycodone and inactivity and low nutrition are a very bad combination.
One issue is miralax and solace need water. I drink about 2 glasses a day due to pain
So I am using senokot.

I should add that severe blockage constipation is extremely painful. As bad as childbirth, but without the beautiful outcome. Unblocking me at the hospital was extremely painful. I needed a slug of whiskey and a knife to bite on. Neither were provided.
The main purpose of my post is. DO NOT GET CONSTIPATED!!
ok I'm done
The experience most of us wish to forget and are a bit embarrassed to talk about. Over the counter laxatives did help but when you are feeling like crap, you sometimes just don't want to deal with crap. Ignoring the situation however just doesn't seem to work either.
We need to talk about it because it is a serious side effect.
I don't know what would have happened to me if I had not called 911.
Hello again, @kmlnj. Something that helps greatly besides the Senna (generic brands inexpensive on eBay) for constipation is using a glycerin bulb every morning. I purchase a 64-ounce jug of glycerin on eBay and refill the small glycerin container. Then, after use, I wash off the tip of the plastic bulb with alcohol and refill them. They're called "Fleet Liquid Glycerin Suppositories." The plastic bulb simply allows the liquid to be pushed into the bowel. It IS reusable, otherwise, it would cost a small fortune. This method has greatly helped me...along with two 8.6 mg. of Senna tabs after dinner every evening. And yes, LOTS of fluid. Best wishes.
Thank you. Good info.
The challenge is hydration. I am forcing myself to drink water. I think it takes me 1 hour to drink 1 glass! This is due to razor blade throat.
You bring back memories I try to forget. I remember the throat pain and the hour to get down 6 oz of liquid. Had to wait for my pain meds. to kick in before I attempted to swallow. I used over the counter laxitives as well. Sometimes they worked and sometimes not. Sometimes I resorted to OTC enemas and that usually helped.
My pain and therefore need for pain meds lasted for a 2-3 months post radiation. Pin meds lead to constipation. As I my throat healed and I gradually got into to more soups, ability to drink, and increase in energy, the constipation problem passed as well. You will get better, 1 day at a time, keep moving.
Sorry to bring back memories! I am a grandmother and my young grandchildren think poop is very very funny. Haha.
