With fibromyalgia, is it “normal “ to feel sick all of the time?

Trying to come to terms with my diagnosis of fibromyalgia, but is it normal to feel sick all of the time? I’m trying all of the suggestions recommended by Mayo, but some days, it feels so debilitating.

Sorry to hear your news. When did it start. Did you start any new meds, changed your diet.
Take a good look at what is going on in your life.
For me I have to be careful for meds and foods that might contain milk or eggs. I get real sick if I take something with these two foods.
Keep a log of what you are eating and taking.
Wish you the best.

Before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I was in pain in every joint except my left ankle. I also had back issues that needed surgery. While taking care of my back and not being very active the fibromyalgia set in. After much pain and moving to a warmer climate, I went to a rheumatologist who then diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. I was also so depressed. He put me on an antidepressant. In order to prevent flares, I have to continue exercising and stretching everyday. Of course I back side some time and have to start over.
I am so sorry for anybody that has it. But you have to fight it. Do Not let it win!

oakland99, Yes, it is normal. You have to experiment with what works for you and what doesn't as everyone that has fibro is different. I was diagnosed 29 years ago. It changed my life. Look up the "Spoon" theory. It is so true for us.

Rest is our best friend. Move as much as you can too. No, you are not lazy, you are in pain and tired. A good night's sleep is your friend. Saying "No" to events is hard. Heat packs & epsom salt baths are your friend. Gentle massages are your friend if you can tolerate them. I also use Voltaren gel a lot. Ask your doctor about these please before you try.

People will not understand and that's ok, because we look fine. You can plan things, but, you may not be able to go to them....that's ok too.

The past 2 years I have not been able to cook the big Thanksgiving meals or Christmas meals. My family was fine with that. The main thing is being with family and not a huge spread of food.

Medical Science is now identifying Fibromalgia as an Autoimmune Disease. I truly thought this for a long time.

Fibromyalgia is not a one size fits all with medication.....I cannot tolerate the meds doctors prescribe for Fibro, except for Flexeril 5mg which helps with muscle spasms.

I had to accept my limitations at a young age. It has gotten harder as I have gotten older and I have had to accept other medical issues that decided to "tag along" with it. LOL.

Praying for you. Blessings.....

Yes, we tried a few but I got sick on them. So my doctor helped me find a pain meds that work for me.
As I said you need to know your body. Do a diary of intake and activity. Also rest when it tells you to rest.
