Has anyone been using Tymlos?
Has anyone been using Tymlos? I received devastating news that my bone density score is 4.6, much worse than my age of 72. Recommendation is Tymlos.

Oh my! Thank you for that reminder about Forteo! I just had to switch from Tymlos to generic Forteo (insurance). I had been injecting Tymlos at night, so when I received my Forteo, I resumed my former regimen. I’ve only had it for a few days—I’ll skip tonight and start doing it in the morning! Need all the benefit I can get!!! Thanks again for your reminder/info!
Hi
The medicine is only good for 30 days so if you didn’t take the entire 8 clicks did u discard the rest after 30 days?
The Tymolos people say you can’t do a lesser dose but I have difficulty with meds and want to do less of a dosage.
Please respond.
@fili123,
You can take any amount of clicks on the pen you want. I have all my unused
Tymlos pens in my refrigerator. I am taking Forteo now, because my endo
thought that a whole dose of Forteo was better than a half dose of Tymlos.
If I don't see any improvement on my next REMS test, I will probably go
back to a half dose of Tymlos. If you decide to take a partial dose, make
sure that you keep the pen in the refrigerator. I think it lasts 30 days
out of the refrigerator. Once I tried to get 2 months out of one pen. I
think that the medicine does get weaker with time, because I got the side
effects back with the next pen. It probably lasts about 45 days taking a
half dose when kept refrigerated. I had to keep getting new pens
every month even though I didn't need them, because my Tymlos was only
approved for 2 years.
I’m on the first pen, but my plan is to follow the instructions and start using the new one on day 31, and discard the old one. I have already received the new one
Thank you.

Hi,
I was on Tymlos for 21 months. My decision to choose Tymlos was not an easy one. However, my doctor told me I had two choices, bad and worse! The bad choice was to take the shots and risk short and/or long term side effects. However, it would lengthen my lifetime. The worse choice was not to take Tymlos and die from a fall! At the time, I was 72 and felt I had a lot more life left in me. Initially, after a bad reaction, I had to stop taking Tymlos for three months. Then, the next three months, I eased into taking the shots every other day to make sure there wasn't any further side effects. For the next 18 months, my husband gave me the shots in a specific area of the abdomen required by Tymlos. That was difficult because the shot could not enter a scar and my stomach was badly scared from a breach pregnancy/birth and two surgeries. Although it was not an easy 21 months, due to new side effects, I finished taking the shots earlier than recommended. I have been on Prolea (two shots every six months, at the hospital) for six years. My score dropped from -4.8 to 2.3. The first year, Tymlos sent me a pen every month at no charge. Then, they refused to continue the treatment for the second year. Thankfully, through Wake Baptist Medical Center, I was able to pick up a sample pen once a month until my treatment was completed. At this time, I have no further side effects. I do hope that this continues for the rest of my life. Given all the complications, would I do it again? In a heartbeat! I hope this information helps you and others who have this challenging decision to make. God bless you and I wish you the best!
I have broken vertebrae that healed with deformed. Will tymlos grow new bone over the deformity making it worse
rickie1, No. Tymlos won't grow new bone over the deformity and make it worse.
Most vertebral fractures heal in a compressed state. Some malunion fractures of the vertebra can be broken and reset. But not if it is the trabecular spicules that are compressed.
Both Forteo and Tymlos remodel bone. The work by taking old bone away and replacing it with new bone.

I haven't looked at the newer osteoporosis meds Prolia or Evenity. They grow new bone over old bone, but I not sure if they would make this type of deformity worse.
