Do these vitamins really help?
Ok, I’ve been reading all the posts & found suggestions for different vitamins. The three most common are:
1. acetyl -l carnitine
2. Magnesium l-theanine (pills, lotions & flakes.)
3. R-ALA
So, does any of this really help or is it just malarkey to get us to spend money?
If any of those do help you, which ones, what forms & how much?
Also, am I forgetting something that truly does help?

Mersus, I was diagnosed, trigeminal neuralgia last year and put on cabamazepine. Works great but made me feel drunk when walking, ataxia. Affects liver after one month. ( hepatitis ). Went on 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper in morning. Taken with a large glass of water. Then I sprinkle pepper on all food and drink the whole day. Works for me. No side effects.
You might like to try turmeric with black pepper. Not so hot.

I have heard a lot about Acetyl-L-Carnitine. You mentioned B vitamins are important, and a lot of the research points to B12 being critical for nerve health.
But when I was building my own stack for general brain maintenance and making sure I covered my bases, I looked for a product with a good B-complex. I found that Mind Lab Pro has B6, B9, and B12 in their optimal forms, which helped me with my daily routine. I'm just making sure I'm getting the foundational nerve and brain support I need.
Do be careful about taking vitamin supplements - talk to your doctor first. I was taking one multivitamin capsule a day, that is all. I started getting neurological symptoms such as numbness in limbs, loss of balance and trouble walking. One clever doctor ordred a blood test, which showed my Vitamin B6 levels were 600 TIMES NORMAL.
Now the problem of Vitamin B6 toxicity is being discussed in the press here (Australia) and there is talk of taking B6 supplements off the market and reducing the amount allowed in multivitamin supplements. Vitamins are only "healthy" if not taken in excess. We think they are harmless and safe because they are sold in the supermarket, but we can do ourselves damage it we self-medicate. Of course the pharmaceutical companies want you to take more and different combinations of vitamins - they want your money! Before you start taking vitamins because of something you read on the net or heard from someone, ask your doctor for a blood test to see what your vitamin levels are, Mega dosing can have serious effects.
