My wife and I spent the day with our granddaughter preparing for her 8th birthday celebration while her mom was at work. We did a craft project together, grilled Panini sandwiches for lunch, knocked out the weekends math and reading homework then baked, iced and decorated a lemon cake with vanilla frosting. We even piped an "8" from melted chocolate onto a bed of colored sprinkles to use as a cake topper. As she had received a bike for Christmas, but would never ride it when we were there, I suggested she give me just 5 minutes to give her some tips on learning to ride. She finally agreed, begrudgingly. Ten minutes later, she had the balance part figured out. The peddling quickly followed. We walked as she rode until dark. She was euphoric over her accomplishment! It was a wonderful day; the memory of which I will always cherish.
