Covid Recovery: How can I manage GI issues?
It has been 5 weeks since my COVID symptoms began. I am well past the isolation date. I had nausea and diarrhea during COVID along with the usual symptoms of cough, fatigue, rapid heartbeat and sinus issues. I have felt like I was over this, but I began having GI pain in the last week. I feel as if my intestines are sore on the inside. I guess it is inflammation. Has anyone else had this and is there anything I can do to help it? Probiotics maybe?

Hi..I am curious ..was the consult with 2nd md..and do you remember the doctors name..sounds like who I had a phone consult with, and I know the doctor was in florida and he was big on the sibo and the vsl #3. My doctors would not listen to his consult ideas and I never did the VSL#3..my doctors would not test me for Sibo either. My fecalprotectin was the highest they had ever seen..5055..the treatment was the same as what you say he told you about..I have the the covid brain fog so I cant remember his name, but what you are saying sounds the same . The Uceris was terrible for me . Lots of side effects, caused a lot of diarrhea and severe bleeding. I have been off of it almost a year, off in March of 2023. I did a fast taper. Are you taking the Budesonide now? The immodium also caused problems also. Let me know if you can .I am curious. Thanks..I hope you are feeling better..please keep in touch. Kitty2
I have the same issues, try eating plant protiens and rice. Sunwarrior is a great plant protien brand, and try to eat some soaked chia seeds. Also sulcrafate can cause some side affects depending on dosage. Pepto bismuth helps a lot when things are terrible for me. Just some things that have helped.
Is there any Long haul Covid clinic open anymore, anywhere?
I'm going on 3 years after my 3 COVID infection and instead of my symptoms improving, they are worsening with new issues every day.
I have seen every specialist you can imagine and no one has any answers.
I'm frustrated, depressed, anxious and now I'm starting to get scared.
When you see one specialist they only talk about that particular one instead of discussing with your other doctors and finding the common denominator that is the underlying factor.
It's just crazy.
I have been scared for two years and I know that makes my situation worse.
With no real diagnosis, and no real treatment, we are left to wonder where we will finally end up!
My symptoms are different, but I share your distress in trying to find help. I have seen so many specialists I have lost count. None of the therapies or supplements or meds have helped me.
I have hearing loss, vision loss, and my digestive issue is extreme constipation. I am dizzy and disoriented.
I have lost thirty pounds.
My condition continues to worsen. I’m still going to doctors and trying to find answers, but
So far no luck with any treatment.
Yes I have had the very painful intestinal issues. The first couple of times it was accompanied by a temp of 100 plus. Have had it mildly, often; extreme pain, just twice. However, those times had ongoing effects for several days. Great sympathy for you. Tis dreadful. And just one more ick symptom of this most disruptive disease.
Me too ...many foods I can't eat now. . used to have a " cast iron stomach" , now must stick to foods that don't offend the gut ...and FYI if you are using NSAIDS..they have a real potential to cause gut irritation, bleeding, and can be fatal .no kidding ...and consider getting the cologuard test. Very kind regards Suzanne Smith RN
My gastro dr recommended Benefiber 2x a day which has really helped me with constipation
Hi, I’m new to this forum, but just as you mentioned, for me it’s the constipation along with a lot of bloating, that will not go away. I already had the colonoscopy & endoscopy done with No results, all came back normal. I can only do No.2 by taking laxatives the night before, so it’s an all day event the next day and after that, the gas and bloating comes into play. Don’t know what else I can do. Anyone else with similar issues?
I suggest you consider trying the magnesium capsules, as they’re very effective for me, and they’re also a more natural approach than regular laxatives, plus they have other health benefits.
I also recommend you consider having full thyroid labwork done. I did, and discovered that I had Hashimoto’s induced hypothyroidism, which is well-known to cause constipation. Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune disease, so I believe it was just more thing caused by covid.
Additional labwork you should consider is a full GI-Map in case your GI issues are being caused by some sort of bacteria, parasite, or toxin.
The more tests you can get done, the more info you will have. Hang in there!
