Welcome to Connect, @atsfmoji. There are quite a few members in the Blood Cancer support group who also have MDS. I always find it a little comforting to be able to speak with others who have the same diagnosis. It helps to realize you’re not alone.

If you haven’t been to this discussion yet, this might be a good place to start.

If you don’t mind sharing a little more about yourself, how long have you had MDS? Are you receiving blood transfusions that have elevated your iron levels? Are you in a treatment plan?

Hi Lori, I had a bone marrow was biopsy in 2017 and was diagnosed with MDS which I had no idea what that was. I asked the Dr. how do we cure it and was disappointed when he said there is no cure for it. I could not believe this was happening to me, so ok what do we do? I was started with procrit every Thursday. My rbc's were abnormal. My rbc count went from 9.1 to 8.4 and was still declining. I have never had a blood transfusion. This year a new hematologist came into the cancer center. He changed my treatment to Reblozyl (luspatercept). My count now has gone up to 10.4. I also can not get rid of any iron I intake, my count is outrageous I am in the 1000s. I am taking Deferasirox to get rid of the overload of iron thus I was interested in the post of the turmeric.
