It is too soon to tell since your surgery is so recent. I had L3-L5 decompression and fusion open surgery in August 2024 and it is a very painful surgery. It took a good 3-6 months for me to feel better but I had fusion and not sure that laminectomy without fusion would be as painful or as long a recovery.

You may have irritated nerves and blood vessels from the surgery plus nerves being freed from the laminectomy. It takes a long time for compressed/injured nerves to heal and some of the nerve pain you are experiencing may be part of the healing process. I also had nerve pain after my C-section when giving birth to my son. The incision felt like someone was burning my stomach with fire and the nerve pain was through the roof! It eventually healed but it was really painful. This may be what you are feeling. Your follow-up with your surgeon should be soon and it would be good to make a list of all new/residual symptoms, noted improvements of pre-surgery symptoms, etc.

i just has a Laminectomy l5 to l2 no fusion what made it worse i fell 3 days before surgery and bruised om my left side so pain from laminectomy and bruise i noticed my open Incision was 4.5 inches as i am in shock as i thought it be shorter. Now will i have back instability due to loss of lamnia. i wish i did Minimally invasive laminectomy . my cervical laminectomy was shorter

I did not have minimally invasive surgery either. I don’t think I encountered the instability as you had, at least in the way I’m thinking you meant. Did you mean something like physical stability for things like waking?

Has anyone had disc replacement surgery?
