Prolia to Evenity

Has anyone relayed from Prolia to Evenity? If so, how long were you on Prolia? And how did it work for you?

I know they say you’re supposed to relay from Prolia to a bisphosonate. But my Doc is suggesting Evenity.

My Endo Dr, an Osteoporosis specialist, mapped out a follow-up drug schedule for me after I finished Evenity. Her plan was to take Prolia for 1 year then follow-up with Evenity! I was quite surprised at that. After a lot of research and posting here, I refused the Prolia and decided on Reclast. Like a lot of us, we've read and been told that it's imperative to follow Prolia with a Bisphosonate. From the literature that was all over my Dr's office, it looks like Amgen is pushing (?) this drug sequence. I have read that taking the Prolia for a very short time, 1 year, that there is not the worry about the rebound fractures. Who knows! I did not want to take that chance.

Hi @jpareti1 , I haven't used prolia or evenity personally although I've read drug information regarding the two meds and some related publications. Here is a paper of clinical study for the sequence prolia to evenity. Please note that the study was part of a larger phase II study (see Fig 1 A for the study design): 2 Prolia shots followed by 12 months of Evenity - as shown in Fig 1B. BMD changes were the primary end points. Study of fracture risk or prolia rebound wasn't meaningful here due to the very small size of the study (hard to reach statistical significance):

It's great that you post this new thread, as I believe we have members who had similar experiences although with various prior treatments or medical conditions. Hope they chime in soon. The number of doses of prolia taken appears to matter. The more shots one gets, the trickier it is to stop prolia and this is usually dealt with a strong bisphosphonate such as reclast. Also from what I read from literature, treatment of bisphosphonate prior to prolia shots may make a difference in the outcome of prolia cessation.

Wish you have a smooth transition, whichever route you and your endo decide.

I am following your post. I have been on Prolia for 5 years and due to a recent 3-month holiday due to dental implant surgery and the risk for fracture my rheumatologist recommended Evenity for a year followed by Reclast to "buy me some time". She gave me an Evenity pamphlet to read; it wasn't enough for me to make a decision. I did not feel comfortable with the possible side effects or the change at that time, so I scheduled my Prolia injection. The morning of my injection I had a compressed L-1 fracture. I am doing well, back walking 2-3 miles daily and I am in physical therapy strengthening my core. My next Prolia injection is due in June, I am trying to read and research as much as I can beforehand so that I can make the best decision going forward. I am 71, in good health otherwise. Wishing you well and I remain hopeful we both receive help with our decision making. I will keep you posted on my journey.

Thanks for the info. I’m so sorry to hear about your fracture. But great that you’re healing well!
Im 67 and was on Prolia 5.5 years and relayed to Fosamax 6 mos ago. I had a T7 vertebrae fracture last mo and a T6 fracture last week. My other endo wants me to go to Reclast. But the longer you’re on these drugs, the higher, the chance of the dreaded ONJ or atypical femur fracture. But then if Fosamax not strong enough, I could get more vertebrae fractures. Very stressful and of course I wish I had never started these drugs.
Yes let’s keep each other posted on this journey 👍
