Itchy tiny bumps on back

Posted by fam8284 @fam8284, 6 days ago

Has anyone experienced tiny reddish bumps on their back that are itchy, while tapering off prednisone?
I’ve been tapering off the Prednisone each month which I began in September 2023.
I started with 15 mgs. and I’m now at 1/2mg daily. Two more weeks to go.
The itchy bumps started about a week and a half ago.
Would love to know if anyone has had this happen to them while on the meds or tapering off. Thank you so much

Wow that’s a slow taper! Impressed by your patience. I am just a month and a half into my flare and for at least the past month have had the itchy bumps like you mention on my back. I hadn’t thought of its being Prednisone-related, or PMR related—but maybe it is! I was thinking it may be heat rash. I do like to pile on the blankets.

Thanks so much for responding to my post. I decided to google my question also and these itchy bumps did seem to be a thing when tapering. I will be talking with my rheumatologist today and I’ll see what he says about it.
PMR and the thought of it developing into the GCA is not fun.
I hope all the best for you as you deal with this. Take care.

I had same issue during in my taper, started on chest but spread to back. I needed to see a dermatalogist 2X for a proper diagnosis which was Grover's disease in my case.
Good Luck!

Yes I have gotten that and still have it after coming off prednisone. Castor Oil helps if I am diligent.

What did your rheumatologist say about the itchy bumps?
