My wife of forty years was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer with met to the liver in December. She had emergency surgery to remove a ruptured tumor in her colon and then began chemo for inoperable liver tumors on both lobes.
The prognosis was grim so we sought a second opinion from a world renowned cancer hospital about 400 miles away. The liver surgeon at that hospital asked for more scans after 8 weeks of chemo. If he sees a reduction in tumor size (which he believes will happen) he plans to do ‘curitive’ surgery. If he doesn’t like what he sees he plans to install a Hepatic Arterial Infusion Pump to direct another 8 weeks of chemo to her liver. If that doesn’t work he plans to do a living donor partial transplant from one of our kids.
So… we are much more optimistic than we were before the second opinion. That hope alone is a very powerful drug and my wife is now focused on diet and exercise which in itself is very helpful.
My prayers for a full recovery are with you.

4 ReactionsHi Hopeful,
30 months is very encouraging!!! Mine has resurfaced in my vaginal cuff and pelvic lymph nodes, also inoperable. May I ask if yours was right side or left side colon cancer? My doctor seems determined for me to live but did not look hopeful when I asked about getting to see my son graduate college in 4 years. It is my hope and prayers to get there. What have you been doing to buy you more time? I would love to increase my chances. Thank you for your encouragement!
