I believe Rochester does more septal myectomies than any other facility. I am glad you were sent to Rochester! Come back and let us know how your appointment goes on Tuesday.
A septal myectomy is such a precise surgery and the hands performing it need skill and experience.
Lots of experience!
The open heart surgery portion is pretty routine for any heart surgery, it is the septal myectomy that counts in this open heart surgery.
I am so grateful I listened to my inner voice. I was referred to our local heart surgeon for what my cardiologist believed I had. A rare condition called Sub-Aortic Membrane. If it is so rare, I wondered, how much experience did the local guy have? I asked to be referred to two top places. One in California where I live and the Mayo Clinic. I chose the Mayo, even though it was across the Country because I knew they knew what they were doing! And I didn't have the rare condition...I had HOCM! So glad I listened!!

How long did you need to stay there before you could fly home?
I live in Arizona, so too far to drive.

A thought: I wonder if the doctor in Phoenix who asked why go to Rochester was fully aware of the actual surgeries performed in Phoenix. There are many cardiologists well versed in septal myectomies but do not perform surgeries.
