ENT lesion scab in nose
I have been seeing an ent dr for 4 months now and it’s been very stressful and worrying for a lesion / scab that keeps coming back inside my nose and my right sines keeps blocking up, my nose would be either very runny, or dry. l had a CT scan last visit for a lesion, . On my last visit to the dr he cauterised it and again gave me the same steroid cream, to put in my nose for 4 weeks but it again came back ( scabbing) after stopping the cream with in 5 days. I had a CT scan results was clear and bloods ok, but because after having it cauterised and it’s scabbed again l am having a biopsy done under general anaesthetic (to find out if it could be cancer)
I have had small amounts of blood that stains my pillow on and of over the last 3 months. Been having bad headaches on and off, just taking paracetamol a lot which does help
l have had bad sinuses pressure, it was if fluid was drawing from side to side. don’t know if my headaches are because of my sinuses, also had tinnitus for the last month don’t know
Why?
My nose has been a lot less blocked over the last 10 days but my nose doe's feal a bit sore not sure if it’s my sinuses or the scab which it didn’t before
So the next 4 weeks will be very worrying waiting for the results of the biopsy
Anyone had this situation

I had a recurring sore spot inside nostril that my dermatologist swabbed. It turned out to be a bacterial infection. A little antibiotic cream resolved it. And an unrelated congestion issue and CT scan were normal. I haven’t had a biopsy.
Thank you for your reply, how long had you had the scab coming back , was it in the same place every time, and was it starting to be sore ? as mine has been 4.5 months
And is giving me headaches
Mine was more of a sore spot. Maybe scabbed once. It happened twice in 2 different spots inside nostril. Hopefully, no more returns.
I did have a spot that was not sore, but scabbed repeatedly on my temple. That lasted about 6 months I think. My dermatologist took biopsy and it was BCC. I got it removed with Moh’s and it’s gone. I’m now very diligent with sunscreen. And watch my skin, get regular full body skin screening at my dermatologist.
Good you are exploring the cause. When will you know? 4 more weeks? My biopsy on my temple was 2 weeks. I know it’s concerning, but it might be nothing. Good luck!
Have they checked for staph infection or a fungal infection? Like the other commenter, I was treated for bacterial but then fungal.
Hello @yendor and welcome to Connect. That long time of dealing with such a problem has to be terribly worrisome. It sounds like bacterial and fungal causes have not been treated or ruled out? Perhaps the biopsy will be cultured for infection as well as histopath. You could ask your doctor about that. So your sinuses looked fine on the CT? Despite all your symptoms? Perhaps dryness is a culprit. I have had lots of sinus pain in winter when our old house is so dry and we burn the woodstove a lot. Saline spray, Nasal flush like NeilMed, and an ultrasonic humidifier right beside the bed are all things that have helped my sinus pain. Just increasing your hydration by drinking more water helps too. Good luck with this biopsy.....it sounds like the right way to go for answers.
Hi,
I have had a scab in my nose that keeps coming back for close to 40 years. My doctor treats it with Mupirocin ointment usp, 2%. It works great! The scab goes away completely for quite a while; 6 months or so. It does return but then I use the cream for about a week and it's gone again for another 6 months. What seems to cause it to return is being near a lot of car exhaust often, such as parking garages, very cold weather and polluted air. When I first had this scab they cauterized it also which never worked except for the first two days. However, the Mupirocin is fantastic and has been for the last almost 40 years. It's not very expensive either.
Good luck!
