Can anyone share your experience with a successful prednisone taper?

Trying to tapper off of 5 mgs of prednisone. Currently Endo has me on an alternating dose every other day 5 mg with 2.5 mg and it’s not working. This drug has wreaked havoc with my life and I want off of it asap. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I’m trying that now. Had to go back to 2.5 after trying 1.25 for 7 days, couldn’t take the side effects anymore so I’m going to try the 2.5 for a few days then try the 1.25 again.

Good morning! I hit 2.5 this week from 5 mg and that was pure hell for 6 days. I stuck with it because yesterday was my Nucala injections and hoping that puts my lungs in better spirits. Otherwise back up to 5 mg I go…

Good morning! I hit 2.5 this week from 5 mg and that was pure hell for 6 days. I stuck with it because yesterday was my Nucala injections and hoping that puts my lungs in better spirits. Otherwise back up to 5 mg I go…

Thanks for the update! I hope you’re able to stay on the 2.5 mg and continue your taper successfully! I’m going to try the 1.25 again tomorrow. Even with the tabs 5 mg tabs scored it’s difficult to go below the 2.5 accurately because the 2.5 don’t break evenly. I’m so ready to be off of this drug!

I think they make a 1 mg pill? I’m doing the same as you though - cutting with a pill cutter and hoping for the best!

I’m two days past the Nucala injections and while I slept for the 24 hours after, my lungs feel good today so I’ll stick to the 2.5 for another week then I’m going to stop (per pulmonologist). If it doesn’t work I’ll be cutting up tiny pieces too.

I’ve been on since March 2024 so almost a year.
