Does anyone else suffer with bad leg and back pain whilst being on aza
Hi, I was diagnosed with Autoimmune hepatitis in March 24, I was very poorly and yellow, after spending 8 days in hospital, I was sent home with high dose of prednisone for 3 months then they added 100 mg of azathioprine, came off the prednisone in September, but have stayed on azathioprine ever since, my markers have been good for a good while now, but I still feel yucky, very tired, and I have a lot of leg pain, including pins and needles especially in my left leg, also back pain, my consultant has said he doesn't think it's anything to do with the azathioprine, just wandered does anyone else have any of these symptoms? Thank you,

Muscle and joint pain were a rare side effect of azathioprine in the clinical trials.
I have mucous membrane pemphigoid and was prescribed azathoprine. I started with 50 mg. 5 days in and I started to scratch. I am allergic to yellow dye. This med is yellow compound. I talked with the pharmacist and decided to try it. After 5 days I added an antihistamine. A few weeks on the med I experienced physical fatigue. I was told that it wasn't the med. I went on with the med. I felt that I had cotton in my head. Not the med. After being on the med for 3.5 months I developed night sweats and then high fevers. I was told to stop the med when I went to Urgent Care. My then rheumatologist said that his was transferring my care because I complained too much. Once I stopped the med, my night sweats and fevers left within 4 days, my cotton brain was gone in about 3 days, the lead feeling in my legs left in about a week.
Thank you, that's really interesting to hear, I think I have put up with these symptoms for far to long, even though they keep telling me it's nothing to do with azathioprine, I really believe it is. Thank you for your comment.
I am taking both Azathioprine 100mg per day and Prednizone 30 mg per day. I am in the process of tapering off prednizone and eventually hope to stop completely. Never had any pain taking the Aza. I have some physical fatigue in my legs. But I fight off the fatigue and try and exercise daily. Even got a small weight machine to strengthen my quads. I take alot of rest brakes during the day. I'm 68 male diabetic.
Hi there. Sorry about your leg and back pain. I was diagnosed with MCTD last month. I have no leg pain but my lower back hurts constantly especially when standing still. I can you only stand in spot for about 3 minutes and I have to walk or sit. Is your back pain anything this? Thank-you!
Thank you for your reply, are you taking azathioprine? My back does seize also, I try to go for walks, but it actually makes my legs and back hurt more
Thank you for your reply, sorry to hear your poorly, after reading your comment, I'm wandering if maybe long term use of the steroids affect my legs?
Well, this is my fav/or most desperate issue. 1st a.m., can Not elevate my head.body past 90 degrees, pain is brutal. We who suffer Wil take relief where we can find it. Now this may sound strange, bear with me. I was walking my dog, still dark at 5 a.m., pain was too much. I leaned against my plow truck fender, sure enough the cold helped, WAit, it helped a lot to allow me to straighten up. I hav inflammatory RA, must have shrunk down the lower back buldge I hav. Not sure if this applies to u, consider same. Regards, Jerky.
