Dry mouth during night's sleep

Posted by sheil09 @sheil09, Feb 14 11:01am

Hello,
I have been dealing with dry mouth during the night while sleeping which wakes me up a couple of times. When that happens I drink about 4 oz or so of water which helps me fall asleep. I believe my dry mouth is caused by saliva reduction while sleeping. Inquring if anyone else experience the same issue.
Thank you..

It is exceedingly common for 'mouth breathers.' Some tape their mouths shut, which also improves their apneic results a bit, or they resort to taking a Xylimelt;

I have never used them, and I don't need to, and have no interests of any description with the company.

I sleep with a cool mist humidifier and that seems to help when the weather is dry that's when we tend to get that dry mouth at night. Also if you sleep with your mouth open that will cause dry mouth there is something that the dentist recommends it's over the counter I forget the name of it some kind of lotion or a rinse that you can use in your mat in your mouth before you go to bed I tried it I I find that the natural methods work much better the humidifier and also drinking lots of water during the day and I even now drink water before bed when I wouldn't do that before because of having to make too many bathroom trips. You can also suck on ice chips throughout the night and sometimes what I do is I'll cover my mouth or both mouth and nose lightly with the sheet to keep this moisture and you just got to keep the moisture in. I will be afraid to use the CPAP I haven't been told I need one and to me that's just another source of germs or another thing I'd have to clean every day

Hello Sandwalk,

Thank you for replying to my question.

I have been down the same path as you to help with my dry mouth at night. I found this routine works for me when I am awaken during the night with the dry mouth. I drink about 4oz of water which is on my beside night stand and then I ake an Ice Breakers Spearmint mint which is sugar free with cooling crystals . I find the mints help me more than another suggested lozenges.
