I hope that quote was for a pair. Costco or Sam’s club has hearing aids for low to moderate hearing loss. They may not have audiologists but they have people who know how to test hearing and suggest solutions at a much lower cost with a longer trial period.
That being said, if your loss is greater, than an audiologist is your best bet but you can shop around with different providers who may be cheaper. You might have been quoted for a pair of the top of the line brand with all the bells and whistles and likely don’t need that yet. I understand audiologists in a hospital setting are likely to be a bit cheaper. I suggest you stay away from outfits like Beltone.
I have been wearing aids for 40 plus years..my loss is now profound. Two years ago I got my current aids for $6000..Phonaks which are top of the line and one of the most powerful brands. Prices in this range are the norm for audiologists but beware…not all are good and will try to push a particular high level brand. Research your next Audiologist because you will be spending the lifetime of the aids with them as they re program, make adjustments, clean them etc.
I’m interested in knowing what you have decided and if your insurance has some coverage.
As for the tinnitus…aids will help to diminish the sounds somewhat but tinnitus can’t be cured.
Shop around more..this is pricey investment but good for you for starting the process. Too many people wait too long…get no instruction and they wind up laying unused in the drawer. At Costco you need to be a member to get aids but I believe you can get a free test.
Good luck..you cam to the right forum

Thank you, it is a Hearing Drs office, and its moderate hearing loss. I just can’t invest in that price range right now (sometimes it sucks being retired) and my insurance does not cover them. I most likely willbe going to Costco. Thank you sooo much. Dawn
