Has anyone experienced ureter cancer?

Posted by suzie5 @suzie5, Feb 14 2:53pm

I had the ureter and one kidney removed. The oncologist wants me to now begin chemotherapy. I am not convinced this is appropriate so I’m looking for anyone else who might have had ureter cancer and surgery

Hi Susie. I’m sure you’ll hear from folks here. You might want to also join Smart Patients. Choose kidney cancer as your subject of interest and pose your question there. It is a large group with excellent advice, knowledge and support. I know it’s scary but take some time if you can to research before moving forward.

Hello Susie, I suppose it is upper tract urothelial carcinoma located at the urether level, transitional cells carcinama, TCC. In this case: "Treatment options for ureteral cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy. Treatment depends on many factors. These factors include the size and location of the cancer, how aggressive the cells are, and your own goals and preferences." https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ureteral-cancer/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20360722 My advice is to make yout molecular tests right now to see if your tumor is sensitive at chemo-, radio-, or immunotherapy. If it isn't, try to be recruited in the third phase of the clinical trial CORE, a very high response rate (87%) on the combination between oncolytic virotherapy (CG0070 vaccine) plus checkpoint inhibitors (pembrolizumab, Keytruda), https://www.onclive.com/view/cg0070-pembrolizumab-combo-shows-promising-efficacy-and-tolerability-in-nmibc Otherwise, chemo-, radio-, immunotherapy have, in monotherapy very low response rate. Succes!
