Bone Coach - How do you know it works?

Posted by sheilad1 @sheilad1, Dec 13, 2022

I have seen several people here joined Bone Coach. How do you know your osteoperosis is better. The testimonials talk about general health improving which adherence to any healthy diet may have done the same.
There is no science shown. It's pricey but worth it if it works.

I know nothing about Bone Coach. I did increase muscle mass .. good for bones ... by doing weight training with a coach. My bone turnover marker scores also came closer to in-range with the exercise. Before you do anything it would be good to get your bone turnover markers tested thru blood labs: CTX and P1NP are the ones I use. One test is for how much your bones break down, the other for how much they build up. This way you can determine progress or not on a timely basis instead of waiting two years for the next DEX. A good primer on bone health is by Keith McCormick, Great Bones. He is a chiropractor with a degree in human biology from Stanford, and he suffered multiple fractures from OP in his 40s. You can catch him in interviews on YouTube. I found out more info from his book than I did from doctors. I also did an Echolight ultrasound with Dr. Bush's practice. It came out osteopenia v. severe OP from the DEXA scan. Dr. Bush pointed out the DEXA scan had several errors in it. Fortunately I did not take drugs based on the DEXA. I got lucky! Good luck in your research.

There are also great videos on YouTube by Dr. Ben Leder: endocrinologist at Massachusetts General and a professor at Harvard Medical School.

I have been using Tymlos for 7 months. I just had a scan, although the bone clinic here did not do one before I started and usually does not do on before you have been on it for year. However, I have heard that the largest gains are made in the first months of use. The scan showed slight improvements in my wrist and lumbar spine over the last scan two years ago, but my hip was slightly worse. It could have gotten worse still after the previous scan and improved after all but we have no way of knowing. Two of my liver enzymes are elevated; it seems that is not unusual for ATP but I haven't found anything mentioning AST. Still, Tymlos seems to be a little more effective than Forteo, and possibly safer than Evenity, which substantially increases the risk of major cardiac events in some people. It does preserve old bone as well as help build new bone, but not in the same way that bisphosphonates do.

@imay how long will you be on tymlos and what is your long term plan for the next 20 years after tymlos? I have read that after tymlos and/or forteo it is important to go on a bisphosphonate and fosamx is not strong enough meaning the only choice is ReClast infusion. I’m unsure what’s next after the infusion but I also read if you don’t do that you lose the gain and even go below what was gained from the tymlos or forteo. Bisphosphonate is exactly what I chose not to take 2 years ago when my Tscores indicated osteoporosis. I just turned 66 lastbJuly my hip score was -2.6 and spine -3.3 tymlos forteo or evenity was prescribed by my endo to reduce fracture risk but the side effects seem worse than the disease. How did you decide to turn to Tymlos and again what’s next. Thank you for your input.

I had no noticeable side effects with forteo or evenity. Gains with both but best gains with evenity. The side effects that scare the hell out of me are compression fractures from untreated osteoporosis! My individual route on this bone journey.

Hola, @cowacook

I had a quick look on the web:
it doesn't seem that Bone Coach and Osteostrong
are the same.
Like someone else that answered your question.
There is so much information out there - some of it not so good.
Be careful spending your money.

There are individual people called Bone Coaches that say they
can guide you with medications, nutrition or exercizes -
that's where the name Bone Coach sometimes is confusing.
I've never used them, Perhaps some people on our Support Group
have and can tell you more.

Get reputable help in the area where you live, if you can.
If you wish to use the web - there are many helpful
sites for exercizes or nutrition - but all these
should be checked if they are safe and necessary for you.

Happy journey !

Too many people call themselves Bone Coaches. Some of the information they provide is good, some is just garbage. Then they push to sell you all kinds of products. They get their friends on for so called interviews/free workshops…trying to sell more products or subscriptions. It’s getting to be a whole network exploiting seniors in need of genuine help. Be your own advocate. Do your own research and weed out the garbage. Good luck to us all.

Here is something you might be interested in as it touches on PEMF vs MBST therapy. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZJT7YWLdkNmYuvrOthcM8pjNubbvZ4B-&si=ccs6HBd8yU6L5O6M
I’m going to London in May and thinking heavily of trying 10 days of MBST. I have done PEMF treatments at my chiro office but since I am just now in the throes of osteoporosis I’m just trying several things. I honestly don’t know specifically what works best yet…..I do know that PEMF relieves back pain for me. I also believe it’s part of the astronaut program. Weight training is key part of astronaut training as they can age up to 30 years within one year of space travel! I also do “Starting Strength” which I heavily recommend if you want to do weight training. I am loving the close monitoring of my lifting and I’m getting stronger. I also recommend getting REMS echo light. I’m thinking of flying to Scottsdale to get the closest one to me. But they are popping up in more places so I may wait. I’m scheduled to start Tymlos end of Nov. this month and am hesitant of side effects but it’s scheduled none the less. Also still heavily considering HRT…..

I would love to know how you are doing on Tymlos and if you titrated gradually up to the full dose? Thanks so much.

I am on dose #65 of Tymlos. I have stayed at 7 clicks because I have 3 very busy months ahead. I may try 8 after that but this may be “my” dose level. Only 1 day I skipped a dose bcuz I felt my heart was racing. I took a day off then did my 7 out of 8 the following day. I’m not willing to feel like sh..! I will adjust as I need to strike the right balance. I am also taking HRT and am waiting for blood tests I just did to ck hormones levels. I also have a REMS scan in March. I will post results as I know.

You should get an award for your comments

by various websites and 'influencers'.

I am appalled at what I see lately on the web.

Eventually I had that 'haha' moment and am very selective

which webinars to attend - and have unsubscribed

from many.

I subscribe to very few:

I like and put Osteoboston on my ok list.

We are here on this Forum

to help and give back views of our own experience:

However -

I would say - everyone should do due diligence, approach these websites

with a double healthy dose of skepticism.

Research as much as you can, from as many sources as possible.

Some, many websites and influencers profit from you –

inverse to the help you are going to get.

And put a zipper on your wallet. Maybe even a lock.

Thanks so much. Have you had any nausea or vertigo or headaches? And did you gradually get to 7 or did you start out at &? I'm very grateful for your help.

No problem-I keep a journal for this very reason. Day one was 2 clicks and I added clicks daily until up to 5 by day 7. Up to 6 clicks by day 12. At 6 I had slight headache and stayed at 6 until day 36 then went to 7 clicks. It makes a difference if I’m not well hydrated (water with mineral salt) and I always eat b4 the shot. Then I need to be moving: walking, chores, etc. after the shot. I personally do NOT feel good if I lay down. I can “feel” it but nothing really bothersome. I keep my mind and body occupied first couple of hours. I could do 8 but I want to feel optimal next couple of months so will go up to 8 in May. If I don’t feel ok after a few days I will go back to 7. No specific symptoms other than feeling a “little off” on occasion. Hope this helps! I tend toward low blood pressure so I think the electrolytes help.

I so appreciate your time and generosity. Can you describe specifically the electrolytes you use? And did you plan your "click" schedule or did your doctor?
