Trazodone

Does anyone have experience with Trazodone? I searched this site and got 847 results, but none in the Prostate Support group. My Primary Doctor prescribed it to me because I complained about hot flashes and sweating at night - I wake up multiple times each night and then I am tired all day. I started Orgovyx on Dec 19, and I finished 20 IMRT radiation treatments on Tuesday. The Primary Doctor said I should go back to the doctor that prescribed the Orgovyx. I do not have a urologist, and the Orgovyx was prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist, who said I just need to be tougher because I quit taking it in June. I feel very tired.

What you should look into is using estradiol patches instead of Orgovyx. They just finished the Patch trials and estradiol worked just as well as Lupron or Orgovyx, and it has fewer side effects. If you have BRCA2 you can’t use it.

Discuss with your doctor, this could give you what you are looking for.

Trazodone When I was on ADT and Erleada I had depression and sleep disorder. My doctor prescribed it and it helped with no noticeable side effects. I never had much problem with hot flashes.

I was taking Trazodone years before I was ever diagnosed with any cancers. It was originally prescribed at my urging to assist in getting to sleep faster. Trazodone for me eliminated all sleep problems in a quick and amazing way!
For the past 9 months, I have been doing ADT with Orgovyx. I have not experienced any related effects between Trazodone and Orgovyx.
I would say that everything is working as prescribed.

Iam 2 months post 25 fractions IMRT/Prostate Radiation. My experience has been very frequent urination and a feeling of the bladder not fully emptying.
Other than that, I basically have nothing to talk about.

A night with Trazodone will definitely lessen trips to the bathroom and ensure a good night's sleep.
All the best to you!
PAUL

P.S. Surprised that your doctor didn't tell you to "go walk it off"!

Per my psychiatric medical specialist Trazodone is a sleep aid. My medical specialist at Mayo put me on it to address PTSD Anxiety/Panic disorder causing me not to be able to get to sleep.

She first prescribed Ambien but had no effect on me getting to sleep. The Trazodone was completely opposite and worked. I was able to get to sleep fairly soon. Only side affect I felt was waking up groggy.

Over a long time, I was able to wean myself off it and now is prescribed "as needed."

So, the RO prescribed "suck it up soup?" Trazodone is a sleep aid, and I tried it once as I have struggled with insomnia for years. I felt it provided twilight sleep rather than deep sleep. I have used Temazepam for years with good success. It's a Benzo so many won't prescribe it as it is mildly addictive. As I told my new doctor being in my 70's I don't care if I am addicted to a sleep drug that gets me a good night's sleep.

Beware - I was prescribed Trazodone for hot flashes 10 years ago while on ADT. The tinnitus is still nearly unbearable today!

Trazodone, 50mg, was prescribed as a sleep aid, although in higher dosages can be used to combat symptoms of
anxiety and depression. I had participated in a 10-week sleep study by VA to wean off Xanax. The trazodone has worked well for me.

I showed an article about Venlafaxine for hot flashes. THAT knocked out my hot flashes - this was late ‘22. I was already on 50 mg Trazodone for sleep issues. I now take 75 mg Trazodone for a great night’s sleep.

Best of luck to you!

I just recalled that my doctor prescribed me trazodone when I had trouble sleeping after having my knee replaced last year. I tried it for a couple of days, but each time I took one, when I woke up in the morning I’d be drowsy for a couple hours. I can only sleep six hours a night and that pill seemed to demand eight.

Still have the almost full bottle.

I had the same problem with hot flashes waking me up at night and the bed would be soaked under me. I ended up beta testing the Wave device from embrlabs.com. It has a night mode that sends cold waves through my arm and ended the nightly hot flashes. I am still using the newer Wave 2 four years later.

If I get a hot flashes during the day another button sends more frequent cold waves through my arm and limits or stops the hot flash.

The technology was invented by MIT.

They have a 60 day trial.
