Bone Coach - How do you know it works?

Posted by sheilad1 @sheilad1, Dec 13, 2022

I have seen several people here joined Bone Coach. How do you know your osteoperosis is better. The testimonials talk about general health improving which adherence to any healthy diet may have done the same.
There is no science shown. It's pricey but worth it if it works.

Again thank you for your comments and for sharing your vast experience and knowledge regarding medication.

I'm looking for an easy way out. I have a FEMORAL NECK T value of -2.4 (LEFT), -2.3 (RIGHT) and Lumbar Spine bone T value: -1.3, diagnosed Osteopenia, no previous fractures, 70 year old male, asian, lifetime fitness enthusiast, 130 lbs, 5'5 1/4", never had a fracture of anykind, and no one in my family or past family has had any fractures. Report said my Fracture Risk: 10 year major osteoporotic fracture: 5.1%, Hip fracture: 1.7%.

I was hoping I could get away with drinking soy milk, supplements, and ramping up heavier weighted exercises/fewer reps, and using that PEMF Hugo Intense to rebuild bone.

One other thing, that I wanted to do was get a TBS - Trabecular Bone Score. But evidently most of the imaging/radiology places don't offer that! I don't know why the hell not, as it seems highly important to know the micro-architecture/strength of the bone you have - osteoporosis, osteopenia or not. The TBS score also impacts the FRAX assessment. If your TBS is normal- high it certainly reduces your fracture risk.

So, if someone here has had a TBS score that seemed to indicate that their Osteopenia or Osteoporosis wasn't as bad as it seemed, I'd love to hear it.

And, if you or anyone on here has had verifiable results with the PEMF mats, I'd love to hear it: t-values before after, length of time, type and strength of PEMF device, mat, etc.

I've never had a DEXA before in my life so this was somewhat of a depressing shock. They just wanted to write me a prescription for Bisphosponates. And after looking at the patient reviews which were overwhelmingly negative regarding horrendous side effects, I didn't think it was for me.

That's the reason I was taken with the Bone Coach guy who also said he didn't take those drugs and also Dr. William Pawluk who seems to be the guru of PEMF.

Anyone care to chime in here with their thoughts, experiences, positive or negative about this?

I took the zoom tour of the bone culture resources. I had an issue with the diet that they suggest because I saw their recipes and they all appear to be lower, no carb. I have a very high calcium score. I am the best diet for that, which has worked very, very well, is a plant-based diet. with the right evidence I am open to adding Yogurt and Simon. So I told the person who is taking me on the tour that with the right evidence I am open to adding Yogurt and Simon. So I told the person who is taking me on the tour that I could not give up my basic diet. She said that they were six diets, and one would certainly be the right fit for me. when I got to see the diet I saw they were 65 of which were low-carb plus the Mediterranean diet. I emailed them and expressed my concern that I have been misled and that I found some information they made about the diets to be scientifically inaccurately. They replied and told me they were refunding my money, and that they replied and told me they were refunding my money, and that this was not the right set up for that I might do a better one to one with my doctor. I am not saying it’s a bad program because of this experience that I had and my particular dietary needs. But I will say that their introductory program for $27 has all of the information that is in the rest of their programs. It’s just not as fully explained, but if you can go slow and read it on your own I think it’s well worth your time and money.

Here is something you might be interested in as it touches on PEMF vs MBST therapy. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZJT7YWLdkNmYuvrOthcM8pjNubbvZ4B-&si=ccs6HBd8yU6L5O6M
I’m going to London in May and thinking heavily of trying 10 days of MBST. I have done PEMF treatments at my chiro office but since I am just now in the throes of osteoporosis I’m just trying several things. I honestly don’t know specifically what works best yet…..I do know that PEMF relieves back pain for me. I also believe it’s part of the astronaut program. Weight training is key part of astronaut training as they can age up to 30 years within one year of space travel! I also do “Starting Strength” which I heavily recommend if you want to do weight training. I am loving the close monitoring of my lifting and I’m getting stronger. I also recommend getting REMS echo light. I’m thinking of flying to Scottsdale to get the closest one to me. But they are popping up in more places so I may wait. I’m scheduled to start Tymlos end of Nov. this month and am hesitant of side effects but it’s scheduled none the less. Also still heavily considering HRT…..

Isn't Tymlos considered an HRT?

REPLY

When I refer to HRT-I mean estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Tymlos as I understand it is a parathyroid hormone PTHrP(1-34) anabolic medicine.

@sheila1 Hello, I know the feeling of trying to get healthy, not wanting to take meds with a lot of side effects, and searching for "the cure." Fortunately, I do not have osteoporosis, but an incurable lung condition, that led me to Mayo Connect several years ago.

After reading and researching mainline and alternative treatments for Bronchiectasis & MAC, and for chronic pain, I have developed "filters" that can be applied to medications, supplements and treatments. These look for evidence, safety, and the qualifications of the promoters.

1) EVIDENCE
Has the medication or treatment been subjected to a sound, independent, measurable, evidence-based study? Have the results been independently peer-reviewed by someone with no personal or financial stake in the outcome?
Have the results been published in an independent professional or medical journal?
2) SAFETY
Have the risks of the medication or treatment been fully analyzed?
Are they clearly disclosed by the promoter?
If a medication or supplement, are ALL ingredients disclosed?
If equipment is involved, is it certified by the appropriate safety regulators?
3) QUALIFICATIONS
What are the professional credentials of the developer of the treatment or medication?
What are the qualifications or credentials of any independent reviewers?

Here are the "Red Flags" that make me run away: Undisclosed ingredients. Unwillingness to submit to independent testing or review. Lack of proper training to create the a scientifically sound and safe process, or lack of proper oversight by professionals with the training. Refusal to provide the identity of any "experts" consulted. Failure to advise people with known health conditions to consult their provider before applying.

I looked at the website, my main concern is: Lack of evidence - customer stories don't count. There is not even a hint that this is a peer-reviewed or peer-supported methodology, and NO numbers - not even his own, to show how the program works.
Does this give you any ideas for exploring furthet?
Sue

Several times I emailed Kevin Ellis and his company requesting simple information about their bone treatment program, confirmation of third party testing, peer reviews, etc and got NO RESPONS. My emails were all ignored. Kevin Ellis is dodgy and the Bone Coach firm is a scam. I sincerely hoped this was a legit practice because I have osteoporosis and actually need some real help with it.

I know nothing about Bone Coach. I did increase muscle mass .. good for bones ... by doing weight training with a coach. My bone turnover marker scores also came closer to in-range with the exercise. Before you do anything it would be good to get your bone turnover markers tested thru blood labs: CTX and P1NP are the ones I use. One test is for how much your bones break down, the other for how much they build up. This way you can determine progress or not on a timely basis instead of waiting two years for the next DEX. A good primer on bone health is by Keith McCormick, Great Bones. He is a chiropractor with a degree in human biology from Stanford, and he suffered multiple fractures from OP in his 40s. You can catch him in interviews on YouTube. I found out more info from his book than I did from doctors. I also did an Echolight ultrasound with Dr. Bush's practice. It came out osteopenia v. severe OP from the DEXA scan. Dr. Bush pointed out the DEXA scan had several errors in it. Fortunately I did not take drugs based on the DEXA. I got lucky! Good luck in your research.

Lots of bad information and no information out there. The best resource I have found is the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation. You can search for providers on their website: https://www.bonehealthandosteoporosis.org/find-a-professional/

Hola, @cowacook

I had a quick look on the web:
it doesn't seem that Bone Coach and Osteostrong
are the same.
Like someone else that answered your question.
There is so much information out there - some of it not so good.
Be careful spending your money.

There are individual people called Bone Coaches that say they
can guide you with medications, nutrition or exercizes -
that's where the name Bone Coach sometimes is confusing.
I've never used them, Perhaps some people on our Support Group
have and can tell you more.

Get reputable help in the area where you live, if you can.
If you wish to use the web - there are many helpful
sites for exercizes or nutrition - but all these
should be checked if they are safe and necessary for you.

Happy journey !
