Thoracic, Thanks for sharing your response. I tried Tegritol and it made me sick. I am on neurontin now and in my situation the burning mouth has evolved into painful nasal passages and cheeks next to my nose ( sinuses). My pcp suspects that I have glosspharangeal neuralgia which involves a nerve thing next to the trigeminal nerves. My burning mouth has evolved into an unbearable, excruciating type of pain..it is unbearable. He has me on oxycodone temporarily until I get in to see the neurosurgeon he has referred me to in Atlanta. So I’m really hoping to get answers. It’s very scary.

I suffered with burning mouth, tongue and tooth over 3 1/2 years and did many things. Finally smart doc at emergency room stopped the burning and recommended esophagus scope. Turns out I have gastritis with hyperplasia, acid reflux and bile reflux, and Barrett’s esophagus. Treatment with ppi 40 mg twice daily for reflux and sucralfate liquid 10ml 4 times daily, and baclofen 5 mg three times daily. I first took pantapazole(sp) then Prilosec and now Nexium as the ppi. I chew pepsid complete once or twice daily if I get any burn break out. Took a good 30 days to notice burning pain improvement. At 60 days was able to stop pain pills and pregabalin as my burning mouth pain level had really decreased My burning is gone for many hours during the day and night and it’s wonderful. My body can now relax. Healing is not quick but with patience treatment for reflux works,

I suffered with burning mouth, tongue, and two for over 3 years and tried many things. Finally was diagnosed with gastritis with hyperplasia, reflux ( acid and bike) and Barrett’s esophagus. Treatment with high dose ppi ( tried Prilosec now take Nexium 40 mg twice daily, sucralfate 20 ml 3 times day before meals and at bedtime, and baclofen 5 mg 3 times a day plus 4th one at bedtime. Took 30 days of treatment for me to see slight improvement. After 60 days able to stop pregabalin and pain pills. I am burning pain free many hours. When pain comes thru during day I take a chewable pepsid complete. It takes patience but I am back to feeling more like myself!

The burning in mouth and then burning in nasal passages is a definite symptom of reflux. Your reflux can be from lower esophagus spinster or upper esophagus spinster. I never knew I had reflux. I never felt anything in my esophagus or mouth. I think the nerve endings from esophagus might relay the burning to mouth and nasal passages but just guessing, I would get an esophagus scope and in the mean time ask your doctor about treating for reflux.

Mylate mother used tegretol for TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA. It may well be that it is not your mouth that is burning, it is the trigeminal nerve of which there are two, one on each side of the face. The nerve runs from the braid kind of behind the ear down through the cheek. It hurts severely,m paid 10 on a scale of 10 when you get episode of trigeminal neuralgia. You maybe want to see a neurologist about "burning mouth". My mother was able to obtain long term relief after years of suffering with a neurosurgeon who used focused beam radiation, one time on each side, to "break" the stem of the nerve. She had the done twice. The first time it lasted 10 years of relief.

My dentist, doctor, and neurologist thought my burning mouth was the trigmenial nerve. I tried many things. After 3 plus years I got an esophagus scope and was diagnosed with gastritis with hyperplasia, reflux of acid and bile, and Barrett’s esophagus. The gastritis and reflux and esophagus damage has been causing my burning mouth. I am taking Nexium 40 mg twice daily, sucralfate liquid 10 ml 1hr before meals and at bedtime and baclofen 5 mg 3 times during day and once at bedtime. Healing has been slow. Good 30 days before I noticed sucralfate liquid stopped burning for a few hours. After 60 days burning was down enough I could stop pregabalin and pain pills. Now burning might. Real thru during day I chew pepsid ac complete which stops that burning pretty quickly. Reflux treatment is working for me. Sucralfate coating the esophagus and stomach is really important in getting burning relief. Hope this helps you.

Nexium twice a day ongoing is a lot, and you might ask about rabeprazole' But after a while it gives me diarrhea. Have you had a motility test of the eso? You should. When you were scoped, no hernia where eso meets stomach?
I do not have trigeminal, it was my mom.
I do have nutcracker esophagus. My ENT is Daniel Freedberg MD at NYP/Columbia University in Manhattan.

I tried it but it caused a lower body red itchy rash which was horrible and I had to take a couple of back to back steroid dose packs to get rid of it. Dr was treating burning mouth. I tried many procedures and treatments. Fast forward 3.5 years finally diagnosed with reflux and Barrett’s. Reflux treatments and sucralfate liquid finally gave me burning relief.
