Second MRI after biopsy Nottingham level 2
Diagnosed with breast cancer. The radiologist wants a second MRI but wait time is seven weeks. Waiting and wondering how long this process takes before surgery. The waiting is literally killing me.

With breast cancer, you usually have an oncologist. 7weeks is a long time. The radiologist is not leading your care, I hope. My oncologist got the appointments scheduled for scans and test. Who sent you to the radiologist?
I hope they have not left you hanging. Give us more information if you have it, Be good to yourself above all else.
I'll second what @katgob said. What does your surgeon say? They can either tell you the wait is ok or help speed things up.
A few ideas about how to get a scan in a more timely fashion:
Get on a wait list.
If you can, be willing to drive an hour or two to a location with more timely options. I did that for a PET scan as I live in a medically underserved area.
Take care--I know first hand how stressful this is.
I found my lump end of September and didn’t have surgery until Halloween. Is there another facility you could have the MRI done at. I’m fortunate to live 1 hr from Green Bay WI so if my local facility is booked they send me there to their other facility. I hope this helps! 🤞🙏🏻
Just received a message through the portal to call radiology and make an appt. Tried contacting my point person through the portal but no reply. They originally though my cancer was DCIS, now Nottingham 2.
I have been trying to get a script from my point person, no reply yet. Frustrated.
Just received a note through the portal to call radiology in Mayo Jacksonville. Called no appt. for seven weeks. Have left a message for the nurse practitioner to get back to me for an outside referral. Very stressful.
Sending POSITIVE VIBES AND PRAYERS YOUR WAY! Hope this gets resolved quickly! 🤞🫂🙏🏻🤗
Hello @flygirl1747 I am so sorry this is happening to you! I actually do know how stressful this can be. That being said, try to just breathe a bit, I like to take in a really deep breath and blow it out forcefully like I am blowing out the stress. Sadly sometime I require multiple breaths to calm a bit.
When you say radiologist, do you mean a radiology oncologist? This is the type of doctor that would coordinate your radiation treatments if that is what is being recommended.
I will say that even though I had a quite aggressive type of cancer, it was still eleven weeks from biopsy to first treatment, and that was when I still had a pretty great insurance and I had multiple doctors willing to see me.
Today there is a shortage of doctors and technicians all leading to longer wait times.
Please keep asking for any cancellation schedules, or referrals to get a sooner appointment, but please don’t panic. In terms of BC, seven weeks isn’t (always) significant, even if it feels like it to us.
Have you tried calling directly to the appointment coordinator to make your plea?
So stressful not getting responses and not knowing what to do next. Suggest you line up your team, surgeon for biopsy and potential lumpectomy, oncologist for medical follow-up, radiation oncologist for follow -up XRT.
Also check out this link regarding Nottingham grades from Breast Cancer.org written by a physician at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Fl. This should help you understand and be prepared with questions for the team you are gonna put together.
Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress. 🤗 🥰
