shakiness in limbs

Posted by elenagormley @elenagormley, 3 days ago

Hello -

My mother has PMR and she was wondering if anyone has shakiness in their extremities during light exercise. My mom has shaky hands and legs after light exercise?

My mom is on 2mg of prednisone/day.

Also, has anyone taken low does naltrexone to manage PMR?

Thank you,
Elena

Hi Elena @elenagormley, Welcome to Connect. There have been a few members who mentioned shaky hands with PMR but not sure it was after exercising. Here's a search link that shows the comments - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=PMR+shaky+hands.

There are also several discussions on low dose naltrexone and PMR that you might want to scan through to learn what others have shared - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=LDN+for+PMR.

Has your mom mentioned her shaky hands and legs after light exercise symptoms to her doctor or rheumatologist?

Hello, I am currently on 3 mg LDN taken at 9pm and 2mg Prednisone in AM. I am having some luck with my current fast taper of Prednisone (5 to 0 at 1 week each) after two years of PMR/Pred. I was off Prednisone recently for 10 days but PMR symptoms were not acceptable. I will stay at 3mg LDN for awhile because 4mg interfered with my sleep. 3 mg helped with sleep. Another issue is tendinosis likely from long term Prednisone use. I try and distinguish and identify the source of pain.

I was diagnosed with PMR and possible GCA in July 2024. I started on 60 mg. pred. in July and tapered down to 8 mg. the beginning of December. I had to go back to 13 mg. the beginning of January 2025, since I had a flare up. Since then, I have an occasional tremor in my right hand. Prior to PMR, I would have a tremor that maybe lasted a second or two. It usually occurs when I pick something up-i.e. coffee cup, utensil, etc. In January, hand tremors lasted longer. I did a crafting class in early Feb. and had to place small glass tiles in a pattern. Sometimes, I would use tweezers. During the entire class, my right hand was shaking uncontrollably. I had a tough time with the project. My mother was diagnosed with a familial tremor. It seems like her shaking occurred when picking up and using utensils. My father and paternal grandfather both had Parkinson's Disease.

I haven't discussed with my rheumatologist, yet. I have a neurologist appointment this week and I will bring it up.
