Recent Diagnosis of Diaphragm Paralysis

Hello! I’m brand new to this feed and recently diagnosed with a paralyzed right diaphragm (April 2024). It’s been a journey, to put it mildly. After months of no answers and shut doors, I finally have a consultation appointment with Dr. Staci Beamer next month. My hope and goal is to get robotic plication surgery to correct my condition and get my life back! I am 68 years young and quite certain I’ve got a lot more living to do! Has anyone here had diaphragm plication surgery by Dr. Beamer and what has been your level of improvement after the surgery? Thanks in advance and so good to be here!

Sorry to hear that. I’m not sure about the diaphragm paralysis. I do know after my surgery my entire right side of abdomen is numb. I’m told that’s from nerve damage. Hope you get the answers.

Diaphragm paralysis is relatively rare. Maybe ½ of 1/2% of the population, from what I understand. That in itself makes it so difficult to find solutions. Most often it is called from damage to the phrenic nerve, which regulates your diaphragm. Sometimes this nerve is damaged through surgery, but many times, the damage can be unknown. What type of surgery did you have? Thanks for the well wishes!
