Tens machine for numbness
I was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy 5 years ago. I had slight numbness in my left foot. Now both feet are numb and my calves. I really don't have any pain, except slight burning in my foot. I take turmeric in for pain and it completely took away the pins and needles feeling. However, the numbness does drive me crazy. I have no other disease that has caused this. I have been reading about tens machines and how it eliminates the pain. I have used these before on back issues and they do work for me. However, has anyone had them help with their numbness?

I tried one back in 2016 for a couple of months straight but stopped using it because it wasn’t making any difference for my neuropathy numbness.
The one I used was Zopec DT-1200.
Did you find anything that helped with the numbness? I do Yoga for balance so I'm doing well. I eat right and exercise and am at my optimal weight.
Unfortunately I haven't found anything that helps much with the numbness other than trying to focus on other things during the day. I do think the supplements I take have helped slow and possibly stopped the progression of my neuropathy but it is still there. I think keep eating right and exercise is one of the keys to slowing it down. It's great to hear Yoga helps with your balance. I think others have found that it helps too.
My numbness in my feet has decreased over the last couple of months, but I’m not sure why. I have a tens unit I was going to try. I hope the numbness will completely diminish. I also have an occasional burning in one spot on right foot the size of a quarter. That hardly ever appears now. I suspect it’s probably better due to B12 treatment for deficiency, post covid healing, better blood sugar control. Plus, lots of exercise and good nutrition. But, I’m not sure.
When you use the tens unit, do place on the numb area?
@tinatina - I was in PT a few years ago hoping to slow down progression and at that time, my physical therapist thought a tens unit might help with numbness, no pain. He showed me how to use it, unfortunately no help. Last year, I tried it again, no change.
May I ask what supplements you take? I just started with EB-N5. It was $150 for a 3 month supply so I thought why not. However, after a month I have noticed absolutely no difference. Probably not enough time to tell.
My B12 numbers were all good as well as my Vitamin D. I also have burning in my big toe on my right foot. With less inflammation that burning does go away. I just had bunion surgery and the big toe went crazy. As the swelling decreases the burning is going away as well. I have been using the tens machine on my numb area. However, I don't feel much of it, so you do have to be careful.
Thank you!
I take the supplements from here - https://theprotocolworks.com/faq/. They have the ingredients listed under the frequently asked questions. I posted the why the protocol document in another discussion along with the research links for each of the ingredients here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/957496/. It may or may not work for everyone but I do feel like it has helped slow the progression of my neuropathy. Most if not all of the supplements are listed on the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy site in their complementary and alternative treatments but they don't spell out the amounts for doses. You can order the individual supplements from other sources if you can find reliable ones. Here's the list on the Foundation for PN site - https://www.foundationforpn.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Complementary-and-Alternative-Treatments.pdf
