Mammogram with chemo port guidelines
Scheduled for a mammogram in 2 weeks. My chemo port for Pancreatic Cancer is just above the breast. Can't figure out how breast would be compressed enough to get a good picture. No info online. Scheduler's supervisor said to discuss with tech. Would appreciate receiving everyone's input and/or guidelines. Thank you!

Hi @ssaz. I had two mammograms with my port in place. I was told the same thing, that I should discuss it with the tech. Still nervous, I reached out to my chemo doctor, who assured me that mammograms could be done with a port in place, and I should just make the tech aware. I did that, had both mammograms, and for me there were no problems. My tech was great and very mindful of my port. If you are unsure, maybe reach out to your doctor for guidance? Good luck, sending positive thoughts your way!
Before I thought about the port, I had ask my oncologist re the mammogram. He said there were no problems in taking the mammogram. But when the scheduler asked me a few questions about implants, I started to think about the port. Thank you for your input. Really appreciate it.
Hi I had a mammogram with my port in and it was fine. The technician did a great job and its location was noted and she said they could do other studies if the scan showed anything suspicious. Take care
@polkagal That was my experience as well. I have had 2 mammograms with my port in place immediately above my breastbone. The techs were very much aware of my port and had no difficulty with the mammogram.
This is also a good place to remind everyone that they still need mammograms in addition to their scans. I was under the misapprehension my PET-CT scans were sufficient. My oncologist and GP were both horrified when it came out in conversation that I’d stopped doing mammograms.
