Thoughts on Mounjaro
I've been taking Mounjaro for almost a year and only lost 12 lbs, which my doctor said was d/t Prednisone. I'm not obese. The only reason he started me on it was to get my blood sugar down. It helps maginally wth that, not much. Anyhow the last 3 X I've taken the 5 mg shot, I have a flare with my PMR. Been on the same dosage for several months but no problems until recently.
This past week was the worst flare yet and it really scared me. Besides the pain and feeling like I had the flu for several days following the injection, I had a headache and was very nauseous. Ugh. So I've decided to stop the MJ altogether or, as a friend of mine has done on the advice of her doctor, try every other week. Wondering if any of y'all have had similar problems and/or tried the every other week schedule.

I'm taking Wegovy (semaglutide) which is another glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist.

--------------------------
I have some thoughts about Wegovy that are positive and negative. The positive thought is that I lost a good portion of weight I gained while taking Prednisone. The negative thought is that I haven't lost all of my Prednisone weight gain.
An endocrinologist prescribed Wegovy to me because of Prednisone induced metabolic syndrome.
"Prednisone induced metabolic syndrome" refers to the development of metabolic syndrome, a cluster of health conditions including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess abdominal fat, and abnormal cholesterol levels, which can occur as a side effect of taking the corticosteroid medication prednisone, primarily due to its impact on insulin resistance and fat distribution in the body; long-term use of prednisone is particularly associated with this risk."

Realistically I'm obese but people are kind and say that I'm not obese. They say I carry the excess weight well. Regardless, I have excess weight so I'm working on it. Most of my weight is around my middle the rest of me is skinny. I don't know where all my muscles went.
The metabolic side effects from prednisone are profound. Something else that I don't completely understand but an endocrinolgist said I should have been treated for metabolic syndorme the entire time I was taking prednisone. I said it was my fault that I gained weight but my endocrinologist has reassured me it wasn't entirely my fault. The good thing is I'm heading in the right direction since I got off prednisone.
According to my endocrinolgist, diet, exercise and lifestyle changes only go so far and I'm encouraged to keep doing all those things. However, my endocrinologist thinks Wegovy will help my situation. I think Wegovy has helped and hasn't done too much harm except for some constipation.
The endocrinologist I originally saw for adrenal insufficiency is now treating me for metabolic syndrome. I'm not diabetic but I have insulin resistance which is a precursor to diabetes.
