Muscles twitching and cramping in legs and feet

Hello, For over 2 months I’ve had this horrible muscle twitching and cramping in both legs and feet. It’s worse at night but happens during the daytime hours as well. Could this be vitamin B6 toxicity? I have been taking about 7mg in my vitamins. I weigh 125lbs.

My neurologist says beware of taking B6. It can cause severe symptoms. Low B12 can also be an issue. Have you had your levels checked?

Try taking inositol powder. NOW brand is what I always used for at least 25 years now. About 1/3-1/2 teaspoon first thing when you get up. Drink water to get it down. I hope this helps. Also magnesium helps with what you describe is happening.

I do have Pernicious Anemia but have been taking my sublingual B12 daily. I go for bloodwork again in March and will have her to check both. I have added several new supplements to my regimen, hair skin and nails that has mega doses of B vitamins. As of yesterday I have gone off everything until March. Thank You for your advice.

I recently started taking magnesium Glycinate. I will continue taking it until I see my doctor. I know very little about Inositol, but will look it up asap. I thought maybe this was restless legs, but people I know with restless legs say my symptoms are different. I can visibly see the muscles twitching in my legs day and night, and I have been experiencing cramping in my calf muscles and back when I stretch. The only health issues I have are Hypothyroidism, and Pernicious Anemia. Thank You for your advice!

I’d consult with your doctor about how much to take. For people who don’t absorb, it can be rather tricky. My mom needs to take injections due to her B12 deficiency. My neurologist is monitoring mine. I take sublingual tablets.

Hi @dingodeb
First. You are 125lbs - that’s great but still you get the same “problem” at night. My wife gets it too and that just started the same thing - at night in my leg muscle.

She takes Hyland’s Leg Cramps and Foot and Calf Cramps. For me, it’s a 2 second of this when sleeping. For me, it’s around once a week or 2.

Thx,

I would like to give an update after stopping all my supplements. I still have mild twitching in both legs but it has subsided dramatically. The dosage on my vitamins and supplements are one size fits all. I have to wonder now if someone my size of 5 ft 2 inches weighing 125lbs should be taking the same amount as a man that’s 5ft 9 inches weighing 180lbs. I think I may have unknowingly done this to myself by taking too much of something. I suspect it could be the B6 but I’m not certain. This has definitely taught me a lesson!

I had B6 toxicity from taking a popular daily multiple vitamin for years for older men. Soon after taking the vitamin daily, my B6 toxicity ceased, but not my neuropathy.

What are your symptoms? What do you take for your neuropathy? Do your leg muscles twitch?
