Burning in mouth and throat symptoms

Posted by decosmo @decosmo, Feb 20, 2017

Hello, I have been struggling with digestive issues for many years. Diagnosed with SIBO 10 months ago. Recently, I have been experiencing burning in my sinus, throat and mouth after I eat and continues 24/7. Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms and if so diagnosis?

@decosmo i was diagnosed with Gerd. After eating, the burning sensation, was so bad it went from my throat clear to my stomach. I ended up having H-Pylori too, along with the Gerd. I was given 2 antibiotics that i took for a few weeks. Now im on omperzole 40ml 2 times day. It took a few months, before i was better.. not sure if this helps? But it sounds a little bit similar to what i experienced. Wish you the best..

@decosmo, have you seen a gastroenterologist for these new symptoms? What diet changes have you made?

Sounds like it could be GERD. GERD, depending on its severity, can be successfully treated in many cases by an anti-acid diet. See Dr. Jonathan Aviv's work and his diet guidelines. Good luck.

I have been dealing with these symptoms for a year now, along with weight loss. I was told I have silent reflux. It has made me miserable. I have seen a gastroenterologist, a cardiologist, a rheumatologist for auto immune disorder. I do have a hiatal hernia. Help

I had similar symptoms for a while, and they were getting worse.

Then I had a sleep study, learned I had severe sleep apnea, and started using a CPAP machine.

Voila! No more reflux. That was 20+ years ago.

Of course I'm not saying this is your situation, but sometimes an unrelated issue may be the cause.

Yes……..burning mouth, tongue and tooth. Finally had a scope of esophagus and diagnosed with silent reflux and Barrett’s. Your burning in nostrils is another symptom but reflux might be higher up and silent. Treatment with Nexium 40 mg twice daily, sucralfate liquid to coat esophagus 3 times a day and at night, baclofen 5 mg and pepsid ac if burning breaks thru. Took a good month with treatment for me to enjoy long periods of no burning. After 4 months of treatment I feel so much better and only have minimum burning once in a while that’s when I take the Pepcid complete and that stops the minimal burning fast! Life is good again. The hot burning mouth was a nightmare! I would not wish it on anyone!

You should get an esophagus scope. You are describing acid reflux which can lead to Barrett’s a pre cancer. I was just diagnosed with reflux and Barrett’s. Had been suffering a hot burning tongue, tooth, and mouth. When asked by doctors if I had reflux I would answer no. Boy was I wrong but did not realize that acid reflux can be silent. See your doctor and ask for referral for esophagus scope and get on treatment for reflux.

A hernia with reflux can make the problem worse
