Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

My podiatrist didn’t do much - just gave me a list of shoe brands to try. She didn’t recommend barefoot shoes - said I needed cushioning and arch support. I’m going to try them anyway, after my pain goes away. The gait physical therapist actually helped a lot more. She spent a lot of time testing inserts and adjusting them with different pads in different places, using a foot mapping pressure sensor. My insurance only paid for a few visits, though. While the PT helped a lot, I wish I could have seen her more. I still have plantar fasciitis two months later - going on nine months, now. Interestingly, the pain moves around a bit.

fyi: I had plantar fasciitis a number of years ago and went for months of PT and did different foot stretching exercises. The exercise that finally worked was nerve flossing - google nerve flossing for plantar fasciitis if you haven't tried it.

Yes, hope it helps, it wasn't immediate but it didn't take too long and it is an easy thing to do on the side of your bed in the morning !

I have 5 pairs or Ortho shoes including house shoes I wear all the time. If you order a pair and they don't fit you can send them back. They are very comfortable for me.

l have found it is very helpful to wear ASIC gel walking shoes ( sneakers) with Dr. Scholl’s plantar fasciitis foot inserts for additional cushioning of my feet. I wear cushioned slippers or shoes indoors too.

I have found Magnilife Diabetic nerve pain cream or gels to be very helpful too. I apply it 3 times a day and add foot powder inside my socks too.

Hi. I’ve had a hard time with shoes for years. I got a pair of Birkenstock shoes not sandals. They have been an excellent fit and the most comfortable. When I had a closer look at them and realized that the inserts/insoles came out and fit into cheap shoes that I had. Looked up the inserts online and come to find out they sell just the insoles for $30 for Birkenstock shoes on Amazon.
Best life hack for me ever.

I have neuropathy and balance issues. Walking carefully I do fine- no falls. But at the beach I can’t walk on soft sand without help. Are there any sandals or shoes that would help make this easier?

My balance is awful. A nurse has been coming to see me and we talked about shoes that might help. She recommended Hoka because the soles of some of their shoes are wider, adding more stability. I'm going to check them out. She said her pair was $200.

I bought a pair of Hoka Gaviota 5 shoes today and insoles that will supposedly take the pressure off my heals. Apparently I have high arches which can impact your balance because less of your feet are in contact with the ground. I also was informed I wasn't walking correctly. I wasn't walking heal to toe which affects both balance and stability. My therapist is having me stand on on one foot and walking slowly heal to toe. It's not going at all well.
When I put my Hokas on at the store and walked around, I was having even more balance problems than when I first went in wearing my New Balance 1540's. But Hokas have a wider toe area so more shoe is in contact with the ground. Hopefully learning to walk correctly will improve my balance & stability. For $293 things better improve. Best shoes for me have been New Balance 990's and 1540's. Also SAS (San Antonio shoes.) I like Mephisto shoes too. When I had plantar fasciitis Mephisto shoes, relieved my pain the most.
Fingers crossed the Hokas help,
Jake
