Chronic Post Nasal Drip
Hello; I am a 46 yo male. I have had Eustachian tube since age two. 40+ typanostomy placements bilaterally. 4 cholesteatomas remove with tympanoplasty, twice each side. One year ago I started experiencing post nasal drip. It led to bronchitis and then pneumonia. My ENT sent me to their allergist, I was mildly allergic to grass. Started two nasal sprays, a steroid and an antihistamine. There was no improvement. ENT did a CT of my sinuses found blockage and performed a septoplasty, and opened my turbinites. Surgery did wonders for my breathing; however the post nasal drip is still happening. I am constantly sniffing stuff at the back of my throat/nose into my throat. It is incredibly thick (consistency of rubber cement) which then gets into my upper airway causing me to constantly clear my throat. The only relief I get is if I lay my head over the edge of the bed, fill my nose with saline for 5 minutes then blow my nose and repeat. This alleviates the symptoms for 10 or 15 minutes. The water that is discharged from my nose is clear, however if you reach your hand in the bowl you can grab a handful of clear mucus. It bad enough that if I am not constantly nibbling on something I get sick to my stomach. It annoys everyone around me as expected. It also gets better at night when I am laying down. I use a CPAP and I don’t wake up feeling like I have PND; however within 5 minutes of standing up It starts up. I have a humidifier in my room as that was a suggestion. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you in advance

my voice has changed about one octave higher. but my ears are weird. almost everyone sounds like the Chipmunks when they talk to me. eveny, like news reporters on TV. so strange 🤷♂️. i see my ENT next week and i'll mention it to him.
I have a very severe post nasal drip and I had a deviated septum 6 month ago, and I’m still suffering from chronic post nasal drip. In fact, my mucus is like a thick glue; I feel like I’m going to die due to this horrible feeling as chocking with excessive phlegm, I had allergies injections for over 2 1/2 years and never improved my symptoms, now I’m in sublingual allergies drops for over 6 months and it doses nothing good for me. Now, I’m thinking to do a VivAer procedure, so anyone has done this procedure? Please, advice
Was this actually recommended to you by a bonafide doctor? Reason I ask is that this treatment supposedly uses radio frequencies to reshape nasal passages. Frankly I find that difficult to believe. What sort of radio frequencies are used? Did they tell you the level/intensity of these frequencies?
I might be wrong, but it sounds like quackery to me--just my two cents. Hope you find a solution.
@murmar-
Be cautious. I’m assuming your post meant you had deviated septum surgery 6 months ago.
Not sure why you had the surgery to begin with, but it would have been just for breathing issues and NOT post nasal drip. ENTs get post nasal drip wrong A LOT of the time.
You are most likely suffering from alterations to your nasal cavity that can cause overcompensation by other tissue and new dryness which can make mucous thicker.
Be very careful in buying into “new” procedures due to ENTs whom have some type of belief in new procedures to make money in clinic. Most of it is all temporary due to placebo belief and alterations.
Good luck to you.
Hello, I have had very thick yellow and sometimes clear post nasal drip. I also have done both sublingual and injection allergy treatments. No help with either. My 10 th ENT PUT ME ON 40 mg of omeprizole and that has greatly reduced this problem.
I suffer from a mild post nasal drip that is worse when I lie down. It is causing me to swallow a lot but there is not a lot there to swallow. A related problem which is very annoying is that when I speak for a short while, my nasal passages seem to swell and block as though I have a cold but they are not filled with phlegm, basically when the swelling goes down the nose passages are dry. If I continue to speak, in awhile my nasal passages are so swollen my eardrums feel pressure. Has anyone experienced this and found a solution?
I'm surprised--I was given this to control stomach acid when I had an ulcer and I use it now because I'm a blood thinner that makes my stomach bleed if I don;t take it.
It's a Nonprescription (over-the-counter) omeprazole is used to treat frequent heartburn (heartburn that occurs at least 2 or more days a week) in adults. Omeprazole is in a class of medications called proton-pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.
It's done nothing for me with respect to excess mucus in my throat.
So sorry to hear this. So far both myself and my friend have seen a big improvement.
Might be due to the other meds I need to take until God kows when....
Thanks!
🙏 Good luck
