Hello Colleen, I had invasive ductal carcinoma stage 1 ER and PR positive and chose to have a lumpectomy versus a mastectomy on December 6 that went well. I only had to have 1 week of radiation. I was blessed!
I’m 76 and trying to decide on radiation which I have been told is needed…..
I had surgery on 12/6/25, where they removed duct,4 cm, intact and took margins around which were clear…
Estrogens and progesterone are negative
Stage O
Grade 3
Seems my choices are 15 days or 5 days at more aggressive level…very concerned of the fewer days due to, maybe, more side effects….
Anyone similar out there, or what you did and why and results?
Also, since cancer was contained in duct, why cannot have nothing done? So much to know, in so little time….
Hi
DCIS hormone positive, her2 negative. Lumpectomy and sentinel node surgery stage 0.
I finished radiation apr 2 2024. I did 10 days dbl dose. Still dealing with fatigue and side effects. I was told whether I did five days or 20 side effects would be the same

Are u an active person when u did it?
I am settled now on 5 days starting this Wednesday!
Hoping there will not be that much in the way of side effects….
I am active but seem to be needing a 15 minute nap during the day to keep going!
I hope the fatigue will be lessened for you soon…..
Just happy chemo was never a consideration …..
Be well soon

Hi
Prior to radiation yes I worked out 3 days a week. I had 2 surgeries 1 in December 1 in February. Then I went for my radiation in March.
For 2 weeks. I did do 30 min on treadmill everyday after each treatment As I was staying in a different city in a hotel. Three weeks post radiation a fatigue hit and was not able to exercise at all until the past month and 1/2. I do 20 min walk every other day and the days I don't walk I do 15min on my peddler and weights for upper body. I have not gone back to the gym yet because so many people where I live are sick in the winter.
I hope you do not get the side effects.I had because I have inflammation in my right lung and anemia. Good luck

I’m 63 and yes blessed!! Estrogen pod but 0 stage so I went with my own gut feeling of no radiation and no therapy drugs because they caused so many different effects but I thought I did the right thing cause I’m a year clean good luck in your endeavors. That’s all they wanted me to do too is a week, but like I said zero stage, I didn’t feel like putting my body through anything I didn’t have to

Hi
I was stage zero also. I did not plan on doing any Radiation but when the pathologist got my Biopsy back there was a microscopic break in the 1 wall. He said it would be better to do it.So I had to choose between 20 days.Or ten of double dose. I did ten. I did not do the AI drugs either.
@cbaxter, I'm glad your first treatment went well. That must've been a relief. What treatment are you on? Have you also had surgery?
