Functional medicine

Does anyone know how I can find a functional medicine doctor. I have 2 autoimmune diseases , migraines and anxiety. I do not agree with the way my symptoms are being treated by my current primary care doctor and rheumatologist. All these doctors advice is to continue taking medications which in my opinion do more harm than good and do not help with the root of the symptoms. My conditions are getting worst with time. As I am typing now I have really bad pain on my elbows and it’s been now 3 weeks. I told my PCP to order X-rays and told her I am not interested in taking pain medication before she even was going to offer because this is all they do. Now the X-ray of my joints including the elbows that hurt tremendously came back normal and I don’t know what to do anymore. I don’t feel I get any help from these other than prescription meds. Then when I message the PCP about what could my pain be due to if there is any other testing she can order , she sends me back yo my rheumatologist. Please if anyone can direct me to a doctor that does not just prescribe medicine but actually gets to the bottom reason on how to control my pain and inflammation. Thank you!

I have Crohn's disease. My first gastrointestinal today me I could do nothing to make things better but take expensive immune suppressing drugs. I found a holistic doctor similar to functional doctor. He did a complete health history then blood tests and then coached me to health.

xiomarah, Bless you. I totally understand you. There is a shortage of Rheumatologists in my area. I have been to two already and get conflicting diagnoses. I have been referred back and forth from Endocrinologist to Rheumatologist and still have no definite answer.

I have Fibromyalgia. Hashimoto's Thyroditis can resemble Fibromyalgia and often they go hand in hand. I have Hashimoto's & Hyperthyroidism. All of these cause pain.

I have Osteoarthritis all over and having the other 3 mentioned above, seems to have worsened my pain. My arthritis did not start until I was diagnosed with both Thyroid issues. COVID did a number on me pain wise as well.

I encourage you to go to an Endocrinologist and get a full panel done of your Thyroid and see if that is the culprit. Most primary doctors will not do a full Thyroid panel.

Praying for you. Please keep me posted. Blessings.....

Hi,
Have you been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease ?
Migraines and anxiety are not the sole domain of autoimmue diseases they are generally resulting from us dealing with the disease. Pain can be from several causes seen or unseen and can be very difficult to diagnose with a long drawn out frustrating journey to find the culprit. There is no cure for autoimmue diseases only treatment of the symptoms. There are many causes of pain, after a decade of testing and sampling I finally recieved a diagnosis. Unfortunately Dr's go for the simplest first then hit you with the psychological determination when they can't prove any cause, until some smart Dr recognises the symptoms and makes the correct diagnosis.
Cheers

Denise, when you said you were coached to health, was it mostly life-style and food changes?

Yes it was almost all food. This doctors approach is to identify deficiencies allergies and toxins and teaches what to eat to correct these issues. And he monitors for change
