Something in my neck is popping out of place
Hello all,
Over the past, i’d say 4 years i’ve had a very odd thing happen in my neck and it happens when I swallow or move my neck (no specific way). It doesn’t happen often, it could be 3 times a week or once in 3 months. Basically there is something that feels like a tube popping out of place and i have to use my hand to push it back in place. It’s like something is bending. It sounds really odd but it’s really really painful and when it happens a panic feels my body and i have to push it back in right away. It happens just under my left jaw and a bit over from my adam’s apple, sort of where you would check your pulse. I can’t find anything on the internet about this and haven’t decided to go to the doctor because it’s something that happens randomly.
If anyone knows anything on this, that would be great!!

@kleider13 I'm the exact same and I've noticed it happening more frequently. I've tried looking it up so many times and this is the first time I've come across other people who have the same issue.
I actually found a doctor that found out what was going on. I went to an ENT that took a CT scan and he was like you might just be thinking it's doing that but it's not as dramatic as you feel cuz he didnt see anything in the scan. He sent me to a 2nd option specialist and she caught something on my scan. It shows I have part of my cartilage in my throat has fully ossified. This means cartilage has hardened like a bone. usually this starts happening when you are in your 30s and fully ossifies around 65.For some reason mine has been fully ossified for years. (I am 30 now) there is no fix. they just hope as I age the rest of the cartilage ossifies. the popping put sensation happens because the cartilage in your throat moves but the ossified part doesn't, causing it to pop out of place.
Oh my gosh!! Ok!! I'm 40 this year so we're just advanced?? LOL I'm so happy to hear an answer, and that it's not something horrible.
This started when I was about 18 or 19. The CT scan showed 2 spots that showed up white like bone meaning it was fully ossified. I am not sure what causes that to happen.
Omg. FINALLY I've found others who have experienced the same thing. I've had this happen occasionally for probably 15 years. For the longest time it would happen and then I'd swallow again and immediately it would feel like it popped back into place. But about 5 years ago, that started not working anymore and it wouldn't just pop back, instead it was slowly start to feel better over the course of about 5-7 days. But it sounds like the same "random" triggers sometimes just yawing if I'm laying a specific way or looking down a specific way, but I cant pinpoint anything specific. Its very sporadic with me, for a while it was almost once every 6 months, but recently it's been over a year since it's happened last. I tried explaining to a Doctor once and they were just like idk sounds like a muscle since it doesn't impact my breathing or eating except for making it super painful. I'm just happy to have found others who experience this too (sadly)
This happens to me too! It's very hard to find any info on it. It doesn't happen often and sometimes I feel it coming on and I'm able to stop it with slow movements in my neck. The worst one I have ever had was today and it lasted about 20 minutes. Normally I can massage the area and move my neck until it goes back into place, but that wasn't working. I had to video chat with my mom and type through a conversation with her trying to find something to help. She found something that said I should try to sit up straight and slowly look down until my chin touched my chest and then look up SLOWLY. It hurt to look down but after I did it once I finally had relief! Then I had a panic attack. But walking around, deep breaths, and continuing to slowly look down and up made me feel better. Thankfully she found that exercise and hopefully it will work in the future and possibly help someone else!
