Zometa: Does anyone have tips they can share with me?

I will be getting my first dose of Zometa next Wednesday for my osteoporosis and prevention of bone metastasis. Does anyone have tips they can share with me? Thank you!

Research Zometa side effects. Ask oncologist for studies proving it prevents bone metastasis. First time I’m hearing this. On this site I’ve heard it prevents recurrence but no evidence to back that up either.
I refused Zometa.

@trinhttt,
I had infusions over 5 years ago, can not remember any bad side effects, in my case the worse part was starting IV due to my veins. Make sure your hydrated, makes starting IV easier.

I’ve posted before about my Zometa experience but in a nutshell: in 2022, at 70, active lifestyle, maybe 10 pounds overweight, first infusion 3 months after finishing radiation. No apparent side effects. Second infusion, 6 months later. With 10 days, mid-thigh leg pain on the infusion side. Became significantly worse and 4-5 months later, debilitating. Truly difficult to walk. Initial attributed it to a chiropractic issue but realized it was a textbook zometa effect. Refused future treatments. However, my recent bone density scan a few months ago shows I did go from osteopenia to normal ranges, so there’s the proof that it works!

Drinks lots of water 7 days prior until 7 days following. I had a very bad reaction after my first Zometa treatment. Read about this preventative and it worked !!!

I had terrible reaction about 12 hours after first infusion-temp of 102, severe headache, muscle cramps,shivering. For second infusion oncologist ordered slower infusion (1hour) and diluted with more volume in IV. No problems after that. It was explained to me that Zometa helps to strengthen bones making it less likely for metastasis to bone.

I also took Zometa shots. All I can say is watch your teeth!! The shot didn't bother me, but my teeth are now crooked and the two crowns I have in front now have to be replaced due to the bone shifting in my mouth. I look like Bucky Beaver!! Had I known that Zometa affected the bone in your mouth, I would have refused it. I will also be looking into Invisalign to straighten out my bottom teeth and the molar on top that has moved and now hits my tongue all the time. Makes it very sore and hard to talk at times.

Thanks. May I ask how long was your first infusion? My nurse said mine will be approximately 30 minutes.
