Osteoporosis and Forteo (teriparatide): What to hear experiences
Wanting to hear people’s experience with using Forteo generally , good and bad. Concerned about having to travel and keeping it at the 36-46F range. Also would like to hear from those that used it 15-20 years ago and if any medical issues have come about that are related to Forteo.

I had 13 compression fractures before starting Forteo. I completed the full 24 months and have not fractured since. Now, 7 years later I have just started the generic version of Forteo and will do that for 6 months and then Evenity. Forteo shows bone growth at 3 and 6 months, so I am hopeful!
Good to hear it works. thank you.
I took Forteo for one year and one month. I had a mere 7% increase in spine bone density and sadly, I lost bone density in my hips. I went from -2.5 to -2.7. Needless to say, very disappointed. Now I'm on Tymlos for the next 11 months and am hoping for much better results.
I have traveled frequently with Forteo and haven't had a problem. It will be fine for several hours without refrigeration.
I was on Forteo for 13 months. Once in a while, I would get random pains, nothing unbearable, just a little uncomfortable, in different parts of my body (shin, arm, foot). Other than those, there were no other side effects. I was nervous to start taking it, given what I had read. But like my doctor said, "If that happens, you'll stop taking it."
7% is significant. Was your Dexa with the same machine as last time?
It was with the same facility; I can't be sure if it was the same machine. I'm more disappointed in the loss of hip bone density. And I don't think 7% is significant enough, especially with the hip loss
7% is below the median gain of 9.7%, but it's not too bad. From the FDA sheet:
"Seventy-two percent of patients treated with FORTEO achieved at least a 5% increase in spine BMD, and 44% gained 10% or more."
That's after 18 months of treatment. So, 7% after 13 months doesn't sound unreasonable.
I'm hoping for a better result with the Tymlos, especially for the hips.
