I had knee surgery Oct 16. The swelling is extensive and ha never gone

Knee replacement 9 weeks ago. I’m RICE my knee and the swelling has not gone down. I’ve been on steroids twice. It is not a functioning knee as I can not bend it more than 65 degrees. I go to PT 5 days a week, they are perplexed as well. Any suggestions are welcome.

My opinion I is (I’m not a doctor) that people who didn’t develop excessive scar tissue problems on the first round of TKR, most likely won’t on the next. Can’t speak about recovery, because again, I developed excessive scar tissue from the get go, but it definitely is not worse than the first. If it would correct your problem, and heavy scar tissue hasn’t been an issue, I might take the risk.
Best of Luck!

Are you wrapping your knee? Helps mine alot. I go one day without and kber swells up alot. Something called tubigrip is what I use. Get it from pt or Amazon. Where it all the time. And lots of ice. Aircraft cryo/Cuff cooler. Also amazon.

What does the medical team say? My team had me use the lower leg/calf electric compression things (I don’t know the medical name). My swelling was gone in a couple of weeks with helped with bend, flex etc. good luck!

@quis

5 Days a week PT is excessive, I had mine done in May, started with gentle walk 100-200 steps and built up gradually to a base of 3000 per day every day over a month, so 2nd month 4000per day and add as you feel comfortable with keeping your 3000 base line, l walk 6000+ easily now, do not carry weights at the beginning, after about a month of walking start adding weights wearing a back pack, I still got inflamed swelling and internal bruising so used Ibuprofen to control it, Walking is the best way to improve your leg strength, you can start adding other exercise's when YOU feel good to it, it can take up to and over a year to get better, so slowly slowly and it will come. Add weights exercise's (Barr Bell, Dumb Bells) when you are ready.

Walking does much better than some of the PT. I still have this tightness at 14 weeks. I still do PT exercises with walking. Rest, elevate leg and ice.
Changes will come. Be patient and pray 🙏 everyday.
