Reducing Hip Pain while waiting for replacement: Suggestions?
I have had a hip replacement and was probably on the way to a 2nd one when everything shut down due to Covid 19. Does anyone have ideas about bandaging / bracing to support or limit movement and reduce pain when I move

Thank you, Colleen. I appreciate your assistance! I had my first hip replacement in February of this year and am doing great with that. I had no problems and used a walker for about 4 days. Fortunately I have always done well with surgery and recovered quickly and uneventfully. I have to make due with the pain in my other hip (which is considerably worse than the first hip was) and my surgery is scheduled for February 3. So it's a long wait. I am on the cancellation list so hopefully I could have it done earlier. I did invest in a leg wrap today (goes around my waist and upper thigh). It seems to sup;port the leg-hip area and takes off the pressure. So we'll see.
Thank you Amanda! I appreciate having the website. I am definitely on the cancelation list. It's the first thing I asked about when given 2/3/23 as my surgery date.
Thank you Sue! The PA gave me some stretch and other light exercises to do. I will see how I do with them. I'm glad to hear that PT worked well for you!
Thank you Amanda! I will follow up. I am definitely on the cancelation list for this surgery!
Very informative. I have been on Mayo Connect for about 2 years and found it invaluable. I went through Esophageal Cancer treatment at Mayo Phoenix in 2023 and 2024. I did a year of Immunotherapy, Optivo, and 18 months post op am cancer free. However, the Optivo exacerbated ALL joint pain, especially my right hip. I have been diagnosed needing a total hip replacement. The pain is not unbearable but it is very bothersome, particularly in the inner groin area. I have opted to delay my replacement until next November as I don't want to go through recovery during the summer. Cancer robbed me of enjoying my Colorado summer home for the better part of 2 years. I do have a PT consult scheduled but I have found the best advice I can get comes from those who lived through it. I am seeking advice on what PT or wrapping has worked for others prior to surgery. I am not sure I can make it to November but want to give myself every chance. I am retired, active and 71. Thanks.
