I have been on so many antidepressants over the past 35 years

Posted by pj1959 @pj1959, Feb 27, 2016

I have been on so many antidepressants over the past 35 years and nothing seems to help.
All I want is to feel normal again.
I can't stop the racing thoughts.
I am now on 100mg of Sertraline but it isn't doing its thing.
I just need to know other people are having these same issues and that I am not alone.

Hi @pj1959. Welcome to Connect! You are certainly not alone. It can be difficult to find the right combination of meds, though I know the process can be really frustrating! Do you have a psychiatrist you feel you can trust? Are you also seeing a therapist? I'm tagging @mlemieux, @joeallen, @barsta, @airtruck54 and @afterthetreatment who have also mentioned struggles with depression in the past and may be able to offer some support! Hoping you find the community you need here. We are here for you!

This is for genetic testing. It is supposed to help your doctor determine which anti-depressants would work best for you.

This can help at least a little bit. I’ve been having hearing issues and it’s causing me anxiety and depression, I’ve been sick for a while too, it’s winter time and man I have bad moments of feeling so alone.

This is actually helping me hear better, it’s extremely healing.

Go on YouTube and search HEAL WHILE YOU SLEEP: Inside Bee Hive Sounds 150Hz Universal Healing Frequency and Resonance

Sounds silly but it definitely works! Also, not sure if you believe in God but He sure loves you.

Do u all think ketamine would help me? I have tried many antidepressants and have had the genetic test in Rochester. One of the things that it showed was I make hardly make any dopamine which explains my life issues.

Is there a kit using an oral swab? How much does this test cost? I read about this several months ago and my doctor tried to followup but didn't find anything.

It has been along time but I think the gene test is a blood draw?!?

I know it has been many years since this convo. Do you still have info and advice on gene testing?

How long have you been on Sertraline? I take Buspar and Wellbutrin along with the Sertraline and it has worked great for many years. I have also tried others and come back to Sertraline.
Recently I cut back to 50mg of Sertraline which helped with one of its well known side effects.
It works for me but as we all know each one of us is a little bit different. I really do think the Wellbutrin could make a difference. It was paired with Sertraline so often they actually called the combination Welloft. Wellbutrin is often prescribed for people trying to quit smoking.
Good luck and I hope you find a combination that works for you.
