How many of you improved your osteoporosis without drug intervention?
I was just diagnosed with osteoporosis and had my first Prolia injection about a month ago. I have never had any health issues, I am 65 and have never been on medication. I was blind sided and of course didn't ask questions of my doctor and had no tests done other than the bone density scan only because it was recommended at my age. I am getting the Bone density report from my doctor, a GP, next week and I want to know what I should be asking her, should I request a referral to an endocrinologist?
I also want to know if anyone has stopped Prolia after 1 injection and is there a risk of rebound fractures? How many of you improved bone density with natural approaches. I am reading that bone density increases with Prolia because the 'dead' bone is not removed and new bone is deposited onto the old bone, not really improving bone quality. There is just so much information out there and hard to know what is fake and what is real.
Thanks for your help

@leeleevb the osteosarcoma warning on Forteo and Tymlos has been lifted. Rats got bone cancer on huge doses but humans have not on therapeutic doses. Evenity has no warning for that. Bisphosphonates don't cause cancer.
Wow, that is good to know about Forteo and Tymlos. Thank you for letting me know.
I had breast cancer which can spread to bones. I had no concerns taking Tymlos. It did me a lot of good!
If you take Tymlos, can you take prolia after?
Since this sub is about improving osteoporosis without drugs, has anyone ever tried the Marodyne vibration plate? Some say it has helped them increase their bone density, but it seems there is no scientific proof of it. There's also the Power Plate but I would be afraid of that with my fragile bones. Both machines are very expensive but so are the drugs! I am waiting for insurance to approve me for Tymlos but in the meantime, I have been reading about the side effects, and for some they have been really bad. I also just watched Dr. Leder's Youtube interview and he said that Tymlos increases cortical porosity which doesn't sound like a good thing in the long run. Please correct me if I am wrong about that.
I go to Osteostrong and it has worked for me. It is an exercise program that uses 4 machines. There is a trainer with you and at the end of the session you do a lot of balancing exercises. It has helped me get stronger. If there is a franchise near you you can go in and have a demonstration to see if it’s right for you. I take no osteoporosis drugs. Good luck!🍀
@patjack2, I have wondered about Osteostrong as I have already had two compression fractures and have horrible Dexa score. They do have them in my area, but no one seems to be able to tell me whether there have been injuries while using it.
Thanks for responding. I would like to do anything to avoid drugs!
Be very careful with OsteoStrong. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis end of Oct at age 54. I'm a healthy, active, person who does strength training/cardio 4-5x/wk. I did a trial session at OsteoStrong and that evening started feeling tingling in my left ring/pinky fingers. Since my session early Jan, I've had an MRI of my neck which shows herniated disc and now I have to get a MRI of my back, because I also have lower back pain/glute pain and numbness in my left leg/foot. From what I've read, OS works for a lot of people. Something happened to me during my session. I'm currently unable to do anything outside of walking until this all clears up. Best of luck to you. I very much appreciate all the comments here and support. I'm in the midst of working with an endo to see if there's a root cause to getting osteoporosis so early. From there we'll determine a plan to move forward. Has anyone tried AlgaeCal with success and NOT using prescribed meds?
@mary1951 with "horrible" DEXA's and two fractures, I am curious why you want to avoid drugs 🙂 Tymlos saved my life and I went from -3.7 to -2.5. Perhaps your fractures have been easier to deal with than mine! I am willing to suffer considerable side effects to avoid more, but I understand risk/benefit equation is different for everyone.
This study shows that transvaginal estradiol does improve bone density, if you are interested. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17493777/ My N of 1 agrees.
