HoLEP procedure experiences?

Posted by southgeorgia @southgeorgia, Aug 6, 2023

Background: 62 yo in good health, no meds or other conditions other than 3,3 Gleason and 4.8 PSA. Had my first visit to Mayo (Jacksonville) and was blown away by their efficiency, courtesy, and knowledge. Had blood test, MRI, and Uriflow exams. I am currently on active surveillance with an enlarged prostate causing retention and flow issues, risking damage to my bladder which shows some distention. I have a tele-health appointment this week to discuss having a HoLEP procedure (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) and would love to hear from you if you have had this done in regard to your experience, what to expect, what to ask the surgeon, etc. Thank you!

Does anyone know if having a lot of bubbles in your urine after a HoLEP means anything?

I did not experience that so I’m no help. I was able to urinate with more force, so that resulted in more bubble in the toilet, but I’m not sure if that’s what you are talking about…

That might be it. All I know is the toilet is full of bubbles. Maybe it is from the force? I was just curious why that is occurring.

I am 77-years old with BPH living in the Los Angeles area. By reading this thread, I gathered a few great surgeon names like Drs. Krambeck, Lingeman,, and Dora with great skills in HoLEP. However I am wondering if anybody here has knowledge on any highly experienced surgeons who are also practicing HoLEP in my area. It would be wonderful if I don't have to fly far away to get this treatment unless necessary. I would rather get treated by a highly experienced doctor who has done this procedure at least several hundred times if not thousands. Thanks in advance.

Hello Ca neighbor. I live in Sacramento area and had HOLEP in December. My urologist, Dr. Noah Canvasser, specializes in this procedure and is highly recommended. He is affiliated with UC Davis Hospital.

Had Holep in Dec - dramatically improved BPH issues with minimal complications. Spent a night in hospital. Removed abt 80% of the prostate adenoma that contained no cancer. The remaining 20% has a small lesion 4+3=7 that will need treatment with either IMRT or potentially HIFU

Had Holep yesterday, Tuesday January 21, 2025. I am 81 and had a foley catheter for 13 months. I had my procedure done in Scottsdale, Arizona. I was amazed at the out come. No pain, no burning when urinating. I guess it is early yet but VERY happy with results so far.

Great news! Hoping it makes a world of difference for you like it did for me.

Has anyone had this post radiation? Can that be done?

I'd like to know too. Have similar symptoms with delayed response to urinating and poor flow. Gleason of 3+3. on active surveillance post biopsy, so PSA is over 9. Avid road cyclist
