I am considering having ACDF (spinal fusion) C4-C5 C5-C6; C6-C7. I am very concerned about neck movement post procedure. Can you bend your neck as before or is it restricted by the implants. How was your recovery as far as back to work or normal life outside of the home?
I am very interested in the post operative bone stimulator and warm pool therapy. Was this suggested by your surgeon and part of your PT? So many questions! Thank you in advance.

I can bend my neck and have no restrictions since my surgery. Neither do my two friends who had the same surgery. But, as I mentioned, i do know of someone who had an unsuccessful surgery and his head is now permanently bend down. I do not know the statistics on this. But there is a risk. I think within 5-6 weeks, i was in very good shape. The bone stimulator was prescribed by my doctor. A tech delivered it in person to my home and explained to me how to use it, which was super easy. You can get a prescription for Walking in the pool for therapy or if you have a pool near you, you can just go on your own. Walking forward, backward and side by side were the most important movements. I also concentrate on balance exercises in the pool, like standing on one leg, etc.

Hi ..I've had C6,7 and C3,4 fused from front and C3,4 fused from back plus My surgeon had to remove a complete vertabrae because I had so much arthritis in there ..life has been ok but have now Occipital Neuralgia which I plan on having Deuks Plasma Rhizotomy done on . I know nothing of post operative bone stimulator but the warm pool therapy would be wonderful ...best wishes .
I am having some trouble with C7-T1 now as I'm thinking I've got problems there now as being C6,7 my first fusion and it going further down .. I've got a horrible neck with whiplash as I was 17 .
