3cmx3cm mass in Cecum: What to expect?
Was sent to ER from my physician thinking I was having an apendicits attack and or a gallbladder attack .. well thru a CT Scan they found a 3cmx3cm mass in my cecum.. which the cecum is not much bigger that that. I have been admitted and waiting for a colonoscopy. I just had one 2 yrs ago but what I've been reading, a colonoscopy doesn't see the cecum that well with the test ... Does anyone have any info words of advice or questions I should be asking if indeed this turns to be something very serious . I wasn't expecting this at all .. thank you in advance

Hi Leah,
In 2016 I had a mass about 1 inch above the cecum. It was found on my first screening colonoscopy. I had no symptoms, so it was quite a shock. Fortunately, it was stage 1 with no positive lymph nodes. The surgery was curative.
You will probably need a right hemicolectomy. It is shocking that they need to remove the entire right side of the colon, but it is because there are so many blood vessels and nerves that it is safer to remove than try to reconnect all that.
Be sure you have a colorectal surgeon and not a general surgeon. I have had no problems or changes in bowel habits since the surgery. If not for the small scar around my navel, I would not know I am missing half my colon.
Do not fear the surgery. If you have a good surgeon who is practiced in this type of surgery, you will do fine.

1 ReactionFollowing surgery ask your doctor about a new test which has shown improved promise over the current Natera ctDNA tests for surveillance of recurrent cancer. https://bit.ly/3PMgB9U
Thank you for the advice . I definitely will
Hi @leah4122, how are you doing? Any update? Have you more diagnostic testing to find out what is going on?

1 Reaction@leah4122 how are you feeling? I was just diagnosed with the same, I have a colonoscopy scheduled for later this month, with surgery scheduled sometime in June. I’m nervous and scared, I’m a caretaker for my 90 year old mom and I can’t wrap my head around this, I had a colonoscopy in 2019 with no signs of any pallups or anything. I’ve been pretty healthy with my digestive system all my life, the only thing recently I’ve been having trouble with is my weight and I started GLP1 in 2024 with no luck. Now I’m not saying that they are the cause of this mass, but I do wonder, because of the slowing down of the digestive system as one of the factors of these drugs. Could they cause such a slow down that they cause a blockage? I’m just curious.
