Does anyone experience rib pain with their osteoporosis

Posted by mathompson @mathompson, Dec 13, 2024

I have osteoporosis and i experience rib pain and sometimes popped cartlidge. I’m doing the evenity shots but this was going on before the shots. Does anyone else have rib pain with their osteoporosis?

Lazer treatments? explain please.
I have tried fosomax, evenity, forteo, all of them now going to try a new one that injections are every 6 months.
You shourd be aware if you want a dental implant they wont do it due to use of these bond building drugs. I have been on premarin since I was 25, I am now 76.
I am unstable, need assistance due to balance issues, but those painful ribs, like i've been rolled down a hill after being beat up!

They would the laser on my ribs for 5 minutes on each side. Its deep heat to help with healing.

I’m sorry that you experience the same thing as I do. It’s definitely debilitating at times. I’m going through it now with both sides.. I am now going through laser treatments which seem to be helping.. I like you try to be very careful. I don’t like not doing nothing. I enjoy working outside in the summer. The fact that this has been going on for years and I just started evenity shots they tell me it doesn’t have anything to do with my osteoporosis.. it’s weak cartlidge… after I heal I will doing injections to help the cartilage.. they do a block so I would be numb, thank goodness, and then with the help of an ultrasound they can locate the weak areas or tears.. then they do an injection. You have to lay flat for that and right now that’s not happening… I thought maybe I had what you had but both have been ruled out.

I play pickleball 3 times a week, lift weights, climb stairs and do bone loading exercises…some days my left rib is sore and sometimes not. When I lay on my right side in bed and take a deep breath, I can feel my fib slip! It’s so strange. I swung a golf club a month ago, hit the ground hard a few times with my club and that was it, pain for 2 weeks. I took a flight yesterday and had to lift my carry on luggage into the overhead, and now it’s sore. Don’t know if the rib situation has anything to do with my osteoporosis but either way, it’s painful at times. I don’t thin the Evenity has anything to do with it. Weak cartilage! That’s my guess! 💕

If you are experiencing pain in the same rib area over & over, probably cartilage inflammation that could be autoimmune, including meds reaction. But if these are acute, distinct rib pains, have you done imaging? I get stress fractures in my ribs —2 right now—from pretty mild pressure, no osteoporosis meds involved

I had burning sensations in that area on Evenity. Do you think the MRI is really needed? You could ask about stopping Evenity after 4 months and see if the pain resolves. Or if it is bearable, continue as long as you decide to. I stopped at 4 months.

@mathompson x-rays will diagnose fractures in my experience. Is there another reason to have an MRI? Can you ask your doctor if you can do an x-ray instead?

Osteoporosis doesn't cause pain. Since your pain is in the rib area, maybe an MRI is needed to evaluate other things going on besides fractures. It will certainly give thorough info including soft tissue as well as bone.

I have tinnitus and avoid MRI's and kidney issues which mean no contrast. But they are excellent tools.
