Anyone take a bisphosphonate for osteoporosis while on prednisolone?
Hi everyone,
has anyone had experience of Alendrenate or Bisphosenate medication to prevent osteoporosis while taking Prednisolone ? If so, what side effects have you had ?
My GP is asking me to consider adding them to my already large cocktail of meds.

I have had PMR since March of this year, and almost at the same time as that diagnosis I started receiving monthly injections of an osteoporosis medication called Evenity. So far, no side effects from Evenity, just soreness at the injection areas. Also taking D2 and D3 and daily 600 mg calcium. My osteoporosis is severe and has been there since my mid-thirties, before steroids and before menopause. (am New 70). Hoping for the best with the new drug. Best of luck!
So one shot and no problems ? I had one just 2 years ago and so far no fractures. I feel though as it has affected me in some way but I can’t describe. I walk a lot everyday and keep fit all my life . How do you feel now? How old are you?
I took Prolia for 5 years with very good results. Went off and was put on Fosamax--had a reaction and taken off. Then Reclast-after two doses I had a DEXA scan and the osteoporosis had returned in my spine. I will be started Prolia again. Diagnosed with PMR just 5 months ago. Starting to taper the steroids but it is an up and down battle. Steriods have caused me to become pre-diabetic-
