For those with pancan, did you drink lots of Diet Coke or Coke?

Posted by nvan22 @nvan22, Dec 21, 2023

I am very curious about finding out why people are getting pancan in what seems like record numbers.
My mom drank Coke daily she did up until she died of pancreatic cancer and it wasn’t hereditary. So for 45 years that’s what she did. I on the other hand drank Diet Coke for at least 20 years as a way to get energy I didn’t like coffee so would swing through McDonald’s daily and get Diet Coke. I then realized in my late forties early 50s how horrible it is for you and switched to water. I was so addicted it took like 2 yrs to be free of wanting a Diet Coke.
So in my heart I believe drinking Coke did a number on my pancreas and my moms. I want to help others if this is true. I am a very healthy person. Ate healthy exercised daily was never ever over weight. Never drank a lot never smoked. If you want please let me know what your history is with Coke or Diet Coke. It will help me understand this. Thanks!

I’m sorry about your mom Yes it’s so bad for you and I want to find a university to do research or a study on it. I recently had a bone scan and the technician said his Dad has liver cancer from drinking Dr Pepper like everyday for 50 years. Other than that he was healthy non smoker, he thought it was the Carmel or dark coloring with the sugar. He said he knows of several people who drank coke or Diet Coke and got either liver or pancreatic cancer. I think there’s something to it.

Got to add a new one: glaucoma drops. My mom died (at 93) of some kind of digestive cancer, probably pancreatic. I just saw the symptoms and she would not see a specialist. I was diagnosed at age 82--excellent health except I did drink alcohol, less in later years but daily wine. I had no genetic markers. No other negatives: I was the right weight, ate healthy meals, didn't smoke, detested artificial sugars, etc. But lots of eyedrops for glaucoma, the same ones my mom took. It's far fetched, and my ophthalmologist doesn't agree at all. The night of my Whipple surgery, the intensive care nurse administered one of my drops and my stomach felt like it jumped out of my body. Not good timing. I refused my drops during the rest of my hospital stay. I'm back to taking the drops (about 8 a day) but only with food in my stomach.
But I know we all wonder--why us? Many of us have no genetic markers; some, with no bad habits. I consider daily alcohol consumption a possible factor for me, but my mom rarely had a drink. Wouldn't it be good if the money spent for all the pharmaceutical drug advertising went for research instead? I know scientists are doing research, but more towards finding drugs perhaps than finding causes. I guess that's because research is funded by those very drug companies. Hmmm...Oh for the old days of TV ads for laundry soap and cereal, Carrie

I never drank much soda, diet or otherwise, and yet developed pancreatic cancer at age 60. I stayed away from junk food, too, and ate lots of fruits and veggies. I was obese for years, though, from overeating, especially foods high in sugar content, so I think that was the cancer trigger for me, but I know that there are lots of folks who maintained healthy weights and still got PanCan. I suspect the triggers are environmental carcinogens.

I stopped drinking Coca Cola my freshman year of college. My pancreatic cancer that occurred 36 years later was driven by a germline BRCA2 mutation that is prevalent on the maternal side of the family causing cancer in many of them.

My Brother who is close in age and has consumed a lot of Coca Cola and Diet Coke since childhood and has the BRCA2 mutation as well never developed pancreatic cancer. He remains healthy.

Yes so sick of the pharma commercials. Think of how much money they make billions and billions if they can advertise 20 times per day during peak times costing millions and it doesn’t even dent the budget.!! So sick of it. Ozempic commercials literally make me sick and mad with the singing and dancing. I think I would rather see the Calgon commercial 100 times a day.
And if they could work for cures vs treating the illness wouldn’t that be great! Yes I think my mom drank rum and cokes once in awhile. I never drank except going out on weekends for dinner etc. so not sure about that. But yes alcohol is a factor so hence the big dilemma.
They are working for a blood test and vaccine that would be great. In the meantime my kids are all getting MRCPs along with my sister and brother yearly. So far my sister has a small cyst that seems to be stable.
Thanks for responding. I will keep searching for anything helpful.

I was a very healthy weight exercised all the time. Was told not hereditary. So the artificial sweeteners in Diet Coke possibly was the trigger. Sugar seems to be the common thread whether in Coke or foods. And yep wondering what the carcinogens are that could he possibly triggering it. More research is definitely needed. I know they are working on a blood test to diagnose it. Hopefully it comes soon.

What is MRCP?

I only had a few diet sodas my senior year of high school, haven’t touched them since. I’ve been genetically tested and carry no gene mutation markers. I recently had a root canal on a molar tooth, shortly thereafter I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The doctor told me to have that tooth removed and replaced with something more holistic, something less toxic. The dentist doesn’t know if my immune system is strong enough yet for a tooth removal and replacement. That’s a situation in progress. I’m receiving the 3 drug chemo treatment as well as vitamin C IVs, and artusinate IVs to make the cancer more susceptible to the chemo, along with a lot of repurposed medications. I’ve lost 20 lbs, but have been able to put back on 3 lbs. So far my CA19-9 numbers are dropping, the tumor hasn’t spread, it’s actually shrunk. The doctor sent off my DNA to a lab for an immunity injection to force my immunity to attack the cancer tumor. I keep hoping I’m doing the right thing rather than going through the chemo regimen at the hospital. I pray every day which helps with the emotional rollercoaster and knowing He is in control of this situation.

What is MRCP?

It’s a CT of your pancreas. The only way to diagnose a tumor really. So explain to me why it’s so hard to get one? They are all about ultra sounds and MRI’s but an MRCP is the only scan the shows your pancreas.

I drank some diet sodas when I was 18 but gave it up when I went off to college. Never touched it since. Wasn’t a smoker, either. I did like my chocolate, though. Went through some college drinking years, too. About a year ago I began having a Red Bull once a week before hitting the course for a round of golf. About this time I had a root canal, and was diagnosed shortly thereafter with pancreatic cancer. Coincidence? Don’t know. There’s some research on it. I’m a person of prayer and rely on it to get me thru all the treatments. Hoping and praying for the best for all of you.
